So far the first two chapters has me in awe as a bible study teacher and writer; grasping aspects of the bible on several concepts starting with the letter H (heart and hospitality) next chapter on Hunger. Loving it so far!
We have to consider our priorities as believers and what we deem as success or successful people in which sometimes it is hard to see the success of others and then think of the accolades of great men and women in the Bible, which is best for us! "Never measure success like the world does" Burton adds. Ultimately, we are trying to be like our Creator, our Savior, and Redeemer: Jesus Christ.
Mr. Burton once again writes a book on spiritual concepts based on the Bible and comes with a down-to-earth approach. We can analytically and logically take his simple illustrations on the H's (parables) and see how it relates to being in the presence and likeness of Christ. For example, he tells the reader about "false finish lines", "deception of worldly desires" and how one should "create room for Christ." I have to stop taking notes and just get my copy to highlight and ingest all these spiritual nuggets for everyday life.
So far up to date, I think this is my favorite and enjoyed 31 ways....(devotional). "Sustaining God's Presence" is a great resources for pastors, church leaders, bible teachers, and everyday readers who are seeking spiritual growth and understanding!
I received a complimentary eBook copy (PDF) in exchange for a review (Willing to Review Christian Books on Goodreads).
Author of God is in the Equation
In "Sustaining God's Presence", Pastor Rodney Burton attempts to show how to keep close to God after the last mountaintop experience has worn off. Throughout the book, his pastor's heart for whoever is reading the book is clearly evident. He is obviously trying to reach and teach first and trying to write a book second. While no single element of his book bedazzles, I was impressed with how solid his writing is in every dimension. So, I'm giving him 5 stars on the all-around solidness of his work. His pastor's heart for readers is solid. His grasp of the breadth, depth, and humility of approach to the Scriptures is solid. His attention to the prose, font and legibility of the book is solid. The effectiveness of his book is solid. His use and timing of both Scriptural and personal stories is quite good (and solid). His theology is solid and flows from what he has learned and not what he thinks he knows.
