Top customer reviews
However, what is just absolutely not acceptable is the horrible problem resolution you get. I read the reviews before purchasing and I saw that many were saying that customer support is horrible, but I figured people complain and give a horrible review to force an answer. They have proven to me on numerous occasions that they truly are horrible. They will answer the phone quick, but you probably won't get anything meaningful that you can't just find on your own searching their site. They will just say an expert needs to review your data. I accepted that breaststroke won't ever work even though they promise a new version is coming ever time you call. I accepted that it may not be totally accurate and you add or lose a lap often enough that it is pretty annoying (maybe ever other workout). But what I can't accept is the SLOOOOOOWWWWW response time and absolute disregard for my time. The heart monitor started showing flaky results around Sep 2016, I was going to change the battery and noticed is was wet and corroded, so I called support. Somewhere around Dec after many calls, waiting for email responses, have their "experts" look at the data, over and over again, I was finally sent a new monitor. Not a belt, just the sensor. That was a couple months mind you and more than a few interactions. When I show a photograph of an obviously faulty product, I expect an immediate replacement, not a hassle. Well, the new monitor never did work like the first one did. I tried to remain patient, I've called them, I explained the situation, I've made my workouts public, I've exported my results for them more than once. Each email takes 2 to 3 weeks to get a response. Almost every time I'm asked to supply more information, even though I have made all my workouts public and tell them they are free to review them whenever they want. Wasting my time is very frustrating, so when I spend an hour gathering information and sending all this stuff and then it's like a brand new problem every few weeks, I've had it. I think it's the belt, but it could be the monitor, but I would have expected after 6 MONTHS of interaction with a customer, somebody ought to put on the big boy panties and maybe, just maybe to try and send another belt to try out, heck why not go all the way and send a new monitor and belt. Instead I get this as my latest (keep in mind, I've been dealing with this for 6 MONTHS!!!!!):
Dear Mark Mattes,
Apologies for a very delayed response with regard to heart rate data while swimming.
Given that it's an in-water activity, heart rate data accuracy is far fetch. It's very challenging to get an accurate heart rate reading in this environment as water causes interference to the measurement. The only thing that we can suggest during a water activity is to make sure that electrodes are well moisten and the belt are tight enough to be in place during the move.
In addition, it is a good start if both the heart rate belt and watch are not in water so that the connect is really established before the swim. It is also suggested to ensure that the connection is also established before ending the move.
I don't make a habit of bashing companies, but I've told them after this response I'm done. After 6 months of dealing with this, don't you think I've been told to make sure the contacts are moist? Yeah I'm in water people, trust me, no matter how tight you get that belt, it's going to get the electrodes wet. It's pretty much common sense that you are going to have everything connected before you get in the water, competition pools are kept very cold and I don't hang on the wall adjusting my watch before I swim. I've told them many times to just read all the other emails that are associate with this issue, then you would know what I was told and what I have already done, e.g. I've gotten out of the pool and checked the heart rate, I've used it for other sports, etc... showing results, screen shots, whatever I thought could help. If you can't do what you advertise, then don't advertise it, but more than anything, if a customer takes their time to respond to your requests at least have the courtesy of reading and commenting on what they have done before asking them to do the same thing again and again.
The software allows a ton of customization, so I can adjust the watch to my needs. It's also rock solid - very few bugs. However, it does needs work on the user experience side. The features are all there and customizable, but once in a while difficult to find. For example, I wanted to adjust the GPS accuracy of my cycling routes (i.e. pinging your location every second vs. every five seconds, etc. in order to save battery), but could not find the option on the phone app. Instead, it was in the desktop app. Finding the solution required an email to Suunto support - albeit they were helpful and quick to respond.
Summary: In a world of undependable and flawed fitness devices, the Ambit 3 is the rock. An updated app interface would be the cherry on top.
I love the fact that I can track calories burned, mph, and view the map of my workouts on the Movescount. Makes me want to train more than normal and keeps me on track. Love how you can go back and see your workout/race breakdown (See Image of track workout)
Perfect for the seasoned athlete/tri-athlete to the person who is wanting a gadget to help you increase your daily activity. I would and have highly recommended this watch....Amazing technology!
