Size really matters. Whatever your sport, Suunto Smart Sensor the smallest Bluetooth Smart compatible heart rate sensor on the market measures your heart rate with great comfort and accuracy. While swimming, the sensor stores your heart rate data and transfers it wirelessly to your Ambit3 watch or Suunto Movescount App. Pairing the sensor with the Suunto Movescount App, you can also analyze, relive and share your moves to make every move count. The Suunto Smart Sensor comes with a redesigned heart rate belt, and can also be used on its own when attached to Movesense compatible sports apparel.

However, overall the strap has not worked way too often -- with the watch or the iOS app failing to pick up a signal, and then after the workout, when I'm about to replace the battery, connecting again. For any activity where you'd be bummed not to have HR you should carry two of these straps.
Suunto online support btw is aggravatingly bad.
On the other hand, the heart rate transmitters, very unreliable. January 12, 2016, I purchased a transmitter. July 28th, 2016, I am purchasing another because the unit purchased in January refuses to pair with Ambit 3, the smart phone or the Concept2 PM5. I thought it was a battery issue but all the replacement batteries have been from different stores including Amazon.
Reviewing my ownership of T4/T4c/Ambit2/Comfort and Dual Heart Rate Belts, there is a pattern. It seems to continue with the smart transmitter. After 6 or 7 months of use, these belts stop working. They either brake at the connection mechanism. The strap material looses elasticity which makes it impossible to maintain a snug contact with the skin. Or humidity permeates into the transmitter housing and short circuit the electric board. Given any of these scenarios, you will end up replacing the belt and/or transmitter because the fun must continue!
The humidity theory is just an observation of mine.
Sometime in 2015, Suunto introduced the Ambit3 wrist computer with a somewhat redesigned smart transmitter. As before, the engineering and design of the machine is on point. The attachment to the transmitter has been improved. But the strap elasticity issue or the humidity theory remains. And at $60.00 to $80.00 per belt every 6 or 7 month, it makes it an expensive component.
I can hardly trust the HR data collected by this device.

It works fine, but you can only find a strap sized M, and it is a little tight for my chest.
It decides when it wants to work. I’m really disappointed. Such a waste of money.Read more
