Top customer reviews
This is 3/16 aluminum, with a rare feel of quality - an outlier that somehow remained untouched by the corporate bean-counters.
As for squareness, it checks out perfectly for framing work. If you are doing machine work, get the proper tool.
I don't know. I just don't know. But he loves it. Says it feels so sturdy and that blue book alone would have been worth buying.
I bought the 7/12 combo. I'm relatively new to woodworking, but wanted to get a couple good speed squares. For the price, I assumed they would be 1/100" or so off (you get what you pay for in this realm) ... These aren't $500 speed squares that are square down to the smallest of margins.
For my daily/basic woodworking needs, they work great, as they should for 95% of woodworkers. Craftsmen that rely on 100% accuracy, I'd spend your money on an artisan speed square somewhere else :)
Obviously it is used for basic tasks like laying out lines for anytype of cuts, it also has an easy to mark line for average 2x4 stud height. I didn't need to use any of the roofing tools 'cause my roof was 45 deg.
What really made it shine was the cutting. After marking your cut I used it as a guide for my circular saw for lumber and for my scoring knife for cutting several hundred boards of hardiplank siding. With that many cuts I had many times where the knife would skip out of the line and cut up the tool, much preferred than cutting up my hand and the tool doesn't notice beyond leaving a light mark on the surface (well dozen marks by now!) which matter not when using it.
I love the size over the smaller and larger versions because it fits perfect in my toolbelt but is still good for marking multiples.
