Speed Squares have been in production since 1925, Proudly Made In America
Today our Speed Squares are manufactured in different sizes and are made from different materials so that we address the many different needs that contractors, construction professionals and DIYers have for every job and any project.
- The 7" Speed Square (S0101)
- The plain 7" Speed Square (T0101)
- The Big 12 with Layout Bar (S0107)
- The plain 12" Speed Square (T0108)
- The Metric Speed Square (NA202)
- The Speed Square Bundle (SW1201K)
Our patented Speed Squres are not just for roofers. This universal tool is a must have for all jobs
Set the Speed Square against your board and pivot to the angle you need: 1 to 90 degrees are clearly marked.
Any job that requires multiple (repetitive), accurate markings, such as locating studs, laying out stringers for stairs, positioning floor joists needs a speed square just for the time-saving feature alone!
For a clean, straight 45 or 90 degree cut, use the Speed Square as a fence to ensure your blade never moves off line.
The Speed Square includes multiple notch marks so scribing is simple, and ripping stock is easy and accurate.

From the Manufacturer
The Swanson Tool SO101 7-inch Speed Square is a popular pocket-sized square that incorporates features of the framing square, tri, miter, and protractor squares. Common rafter and hip/valley rafter scales permit one-number references for all cuts. The square is merely rotated to the proper roof pitch value on either scale to assure the correct angle cut. The slot along the scales will accommodate an adjustable locking pin for repetitive cuts using any 1/4-inch bolt and nut. Comes with a handy, 62-page pocket sized booklet that provides vital instructions, reference diagrams, and tables for the construction of roofs and stairs.

This is 3/16 aluminum, with a rare feel of quality - an outlier that somehow remained untouched by the corporate bean-counters.
As for squareness, it checks out perfectly for framing work. If you are doing machine work, get the proper tool.
I don't know. I just don't know. But he loves it. Says it feels so sturdy and that blue book alone would have been worth buying.
Both squares are "square" as checked by the simple method of scribing two lines with the tool flipped after marking the first line and checking that the second line doesn't diverge from the first.
About the only flaw I've noticed is that the combination square's blade does not have the small edge truly perpendicular to the long edge (so "offsetting" the straight edge of the handle to the small edge of the blade introduces a small angle.)
I'm happy with both tools as they seem like they'll last for a while and will be functional for me as a non professional hobbyist.
The cast aluminum is strong and light weight. The measurements are true. I didn’t have any rough edges from the cast. Book is a very nice touch. If Swanson can do this in the US, no one else has any excuse.
I bought this for him for Xmas because he liked the one I own, but when I got this I realized this is nicer than mine (maybe it's because it's not 30 years old and heavily used?).
But it's a fabulously simple and well-made speed slide angle ruler. The multiple notches are awesome for staying on point as you mark your pieces. It's HEAVY-gauge metal makes it super sturdy.
This little guy is going to be pivotal in my son's tool collection. I just have to somehow make sure he doesn't get better than me in his woodworking skills.
