I never believed in fairy-tales.
Never held out for Prince Charming.
Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of twenty-three.
Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my doorstep.
At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich.
But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktor’s façade. Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role he’d rather not fulfill.
He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.
Yet uncovering Viktor’s secret was only the first step. I didn’t expect to fall in love with him. I didn’t expect to have my whole life turned upside down.
When you’re from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle?
Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?
WARNING: The Swedish Prince is oh-so sweet, enchanting and funny, but it does contain foul language (lots of the F word) and graphic sexual scenes (lots of dirty talk). Reader discretion is advised for those who are sensitive.

About the author

Karina Halle is a screenwriter, a former music & travel journalist, and the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, & USA Today bestselling author of The Pact, The Royals Next Door, and Black Sunshine, as well as 70 other wild and romantic reads, ranging from light & sexy rom coms to horror/paranormal romance and dark fantasy. Needless to say, whatever genre you're into, she's probably written a romance for it.
She splits her time between a house in a rainforest on an island off the coast of British Columbia, and her condo in Los Angeles with her husband, plus their adopted pit bull, Bruce. She seems a bit boring in her bio but I assure you she's a big ol' goof in real life. For more information, visit www.authorkarinahalle.com/books.

When Ms. Halle announced that she was writing a book based on the movie Roman Holiday, a movie I have seen though it’s been AGES since I watched it, I was all in. (Well...fangirl here, so I’d have been all in if she said she was writing a novel based on the 1980 B-movie cult classic Prom Night.) And I have to say this book was a lot of fun to read, it had its moments where my heart broke for the characters as well as moments where I wanted to take a 2x4 and smack some sense into them, but overall it was a fun, sweet and smexy ride that made my HEA loving heart all kinds of twitterpated with every word.
I couldn’t help but admire Maggie. This poor girl hasn’t had an easy life, not a bad one per se, just not easy. She’s worked hard for all she has achieved and is now working harder to keep her family’s heads above water. I had to give this girl credit, she stepped up to the plate and didn’t give into the ‘poor me’ thing, it does surface every once in awhile, how couldn’t it? But she continues to do what needs to be done. Her determination though does cause a bit of a blindspot in how she handles things, but no one can deny that her heart is in the right place.
Viktor. I loved Viktor. I did. The man, when simply being Viktor, is all kinds of sweet, flirty, cocky ~ but in a really good way ~ kind, compassionate and generous...and hello Alpha AF smexy!! But I did have a few moments with him. I know it was necessarily his fault ~ it was more a case of him being shortsighted and wanting to protect than anything else ~ but I did growl at him, so it needed to be said.
The journey to their HEA definitely started off with a bang ~ and what a heck of a bang it was ~ and though there were quite a few obstacles to maneuver around it was more sweet than angsty and I loved watching them fall for each other despite the odds. They connected on a level neither could have ever imagined and that connection both healed them while giving them strength. I loved their flirty bantering and sexual chemistry was off the charts! The big ‘ole bump in their road was a rough one, but I loved how it all worked out for them in the end.
I’m sitting here writing this review and dopey smiling as I remember all that went on in the book, not just with Viktor and Maggie, but with Maggie’s siblings and Viktor inner circle. I had a lot fun with all of them, I did want to smack some sense into a couple of them, but I also empathized with where they were coming from. Although I have my reservations about Callum, he definitely had me laughing out loud and I really want more of Magnus (Pretty, pretty please?!?!). So, if you’re looking for a fun, flirty and smexy read with a lot of heart with just enough drama to keep things interesting, then this is a must read for you!

I really enjoyed the premise of this story, two people who meet under embarrassing circumstances, who feel an instant connection to each other. Kindred spirits, both having suffered through unimaginable loss. Maggie, a 23 year old college student who suddenly finds herself the legal guardian of her five brothers and sisters. Her life turned upside down when she has to return home and get any job she can to provide for her family after the death of her parents. And Victor, suddenly inheriting the title of Crown Prince of Sweden with his brother's sudden death. The pressure is stifling both of them. When Victor ends up staying at the hotel where Maggie is a housekeeper, their first meeting is a little unorthodox to say the least. And their second meeting isn't much better, but Maggie feels a pull to Victor that she just can't deny.
Karina really put a fun spin on what if might be like if the Prince of Sweden met and fell for an American "commoner". What kind of obstacles would their relationship face? After only having one uninterrupted week together, is what they are feeling for each other even real? How do you move forward from here? Maggie is a package deal, her and her five siblings. Is that too much for Victor to handle? How are the King and Queen of Sweden going to react to this, let alone the public? And the paparazzi? Everyone knows what cruel vultures they are.
There are a lot of sweet and light moments interspersed with the deeper, more emotional moments. And of course, there are plenty of sexy times between Victor and Maggie too. Things get pretty steamy, and if Maggie is ever too tired to take on Victor, I volunteer as tribute!
Obviously reading a story about a country that has a real king and queen, along with princes and princesses, I did my best to suspend logic and not constantly think, "they would never do that, that would never happen' which for me is a hard thing to do since I am such a literal person. And I think I did a pretty good job of it and didn't overthink things, just read them and enjoyed them for what they were, a love story between royalty and a commoner. One or two things niggled at me that I couldn't let go of, like Victor driving from Las Vegas to LA and ending up in Tehachapi. That would never happen, unless you were taking the really, really scenic route. But hey, maybe he was doing just that in his vintage mustang!
Even with the few serious scenes in the story, it was a very fun read and I got to live vicariously through Maggie and pretend it was me having all the fun with Armie Hammer! And what woman hasn't had the fantasy at least once in their lives of getting swept off their feet by a gorgeous prince?

I found this book a little long, but the twists and turns it takes really does make it an outstanding read. You know how some authors tease you for that first kiss or that first physical encounter? Well, Ms. Hale has not only done both of those, but she also teases you with a happy ending that always seems to blow up. Boooooooom! She dangles that carrot right in front of you and then some freaking sniper blows it to smithereens. I know, melodramatic much? But what you don't understand is that I got so invested and I was bobbing along and swooning and just in a general state of awwww, and I love Viktor and Maggie... and then it was like freaking doomsday. No cow on the ice? I'd say there's a pretty motherfracking massive cow on there!
And breathe...
So, yeah, I got down with this story. It's one of the best Royal Romances I've ever read. Full stop. Period. Most of that is down to the characters. I fell in love with Maggie from the off and I was rooting for her every single step of the way. Even when I was pulling out my hair whilst trying not to smash my kindle and shout my throat hoarse at her naïveté. There were A LOT of don't you dare do it and just freaking jump him, babe moments. Saying that, I completely understood every one of Maggie's hang ups. I understood all her hold backs. I have two kids and I struggle with that, the poor girl has not one, not two but THREE kids and an adolescent to raise. And the adolescent counts as another three kids on top of the other three siblings. The girl deserves a medal on top of Prince junk. Viktor, oh Viktor...I swear I still can't stop smiling when I think of him. He's such a tortured sweetheart. There were times where he was more Prince Edvard (The Prince and Me) than Joe Bradley (Roman Holiday). In fact, I'd say he's a welcome and heady cocktail of both. I really could not get enough of him. He is such a multifaceted character and hero. Although I found myself lusting over him from the off, I also really felt for him. He has this heavy and burdening darkness and yet, he has this drawing and exciting presence. Seriously, he is one of those heroes that will just make you feel good. Pun not intended.
The chemistry between Viktor and Maggie was inescapable and down right freaking hot. Hot. Hot. I liked their banter and I felt that it brought a great lightness and comedic value to the story. One thing that made this story for me was the pacing of the romance and the physical element of their relationship. I liked that it wasn't rushed towards. It was so refreshing to have the banter and the push and pull before the sexy romance. It was just brilliantly executed and I cannot fault any of it. This really is one of those stories you feel spoiled by...overindulged even. I would've read it cover to cover in one sitting if life hadn't gotten in the way. Every part of it was just fabulous, from the plot to the writing to the protagonists, and extending to the secondary characters...who I hope have their own books in the future. That Prince Magnus...OH. EM. GEE. I want some of him in my life!
I can't recommend this book enough. It is a must read. It is everything. This is one of those books that you just can't not read.

It was so unrealistic it should be marketed as fantasy fiction.

Tragedy has touched the live of both Victor and Maggie, but a chance meeting changes both their lives beyond anything either of them imagined. A great cast of characters - I would certainly love to hear more about Magnus
