I had a minor mole problem in the front of my yard. I live in a sub development with kids and pets so not wanting to use toxic chemicals or lethal force unless absolutely necessary I gave this a try. I applied a heavy soaking to a 6' perimeter around my property and we have had no activity since, before using this stuff I was seeing new mole hills every few days. It was very easy to apply with the hose and made no mess. I expected an odor but it wasn't noticeable and was completely gone in 10 mins. I have no idea where the mole(s) went but I haven't seen them on my property. This would certainly be my first attempt to remove a future infestation. My experience was with moles only, I don't know how gophers respond to this stuff.

This product is the best and worst of products. On the plus side, the application of the castor oil eliminated the mole. It's been 5 days since my husband sprayed; there are no signs of mole. He has tramped down all the runways and we are satisfied 100% that the mole is gone. On the negative side, Sweeney's spray bottle is worthless. Lew hooked it up to the hose, turned the water on, and a hard stream of water came out. We tried to adjust the spray, but the nozzle only has one hole and the spray comes out from the hole. Less than half way through the application, the connection between the hose and the container started leaking, dousing my husband. He turned the water off, got his Miracle Gro sprayer, put the oil in it, and finished spraying the yard without any leaks or fuss. If the product did what it is supposed to do without the connection breaking (this was the third time this had happened to us), then the product would be a 5 star product. Until Sweeney replaces the spray container, however, it's nearly impossible to apply the product. Makes it a 3

This summer, the moles that were just a minor nuisance in the past, became a major problem. I could hardly walk in my back yard without tripping into the holes they were leaving in my lawn. They were so active that my grass was not growing properly and it was getting difficult to mow. I sprayed the castor oil over the entire back and side yard and in one or two spots in the front yard where I noticed mole activity. Within a few days, I noticed a decrease in mole activity and within about a week and a half, I saw no new evidence of the moles. Probably three weeks after that, I could see that they were returning and I treated the lawn again. Since that time, which is probably two months now, I haven't seen any more new activity. I had tried every other method of mole control I could find.
In reading reviews, I noticed that some people are disappointed that one application won't permanently rid their yard of moles. That is never going to happen. They are industrious, determined little creatures and this battle is going to go on forever. If I had to spray every single month during the season, it would still be worthwhile for me. I guess it just depends on how bad the mole problem is and how much it bothers any individual person. I enjoy my yard too much to cede it over to the moles. I am glad, however, that I didn't actually have to kill them to regain my back yard.
Also, I ordered one of these spray gadgets and several quarts of plain castor oil and just refilled this dispenser. It was a little less expensive that way. Either way, it is much less expensive than dealing with professional exterminators (and they can't guarantee that the moles won't return either.)

Moles do create quite a mess in the yard and very quickly. We are so glad to hear that this spray worked so well to move them out of your yard.

This does work but I admit at first I didn't understand how. I used the entire bottle in my front flower bed that had been decimated by a mole and a family of chipmunks, although it probably wasnt necessary. All of my plants had been killed and had to hire a professional to plant all new . When I saw they were still in my flower bed, I went to war. Anyway, 10 minutes after I finished spraying I noticed the ground moving. I was able to catch a huge mole. The next day, I noticed the start of 2 holes but the varmints decided they didn't like the area anymore. It has been 8 days now with nothing. I ordered another bottle to spray in the yard and feel if I continue the use at least once a month, I will keep it unsatisfactory for these creatures.

It's going to take you two tries. In Southern California these stinkin gophers are bullet-proof! And my neighbors don't care so I get all the little fuzzy beasts in my lawn. I tried one application and it seemed to make them go away for a day or so, then they came back. So I applied another application, at night, and really soaked it in. They haven't been back. I am also making it a plan to do 1 application a month just for maintenance.

We have a mole problem this year so purchased the granular product and watered it in with this. No longer signs of moles. From what I understand it is a 2-part work; granular eliminates the food source; odor of liquid drives them off. We also purchased a Wire Tek 1001 Mole Eliminator, just in case they return; but this product is a big more humane.

There is no silver bullet/magic wand/push-button approach to mole control, unless you own a bulldozer, but this is the next best thing...

IF the moles are not in a 'family way', the castor oil is very effective in driving them away and preventing others from entering the yard. Voles too. But those mother moles who have already set up house in your yard will often put up with the smell/taste until after rearing their young and will need to be dealt with using a trap. They are too busy searching for enough food to feed her and her newborns to be concerned with taste. I prefer the loop-style traps as they have proven most effective over the years.

I may have one or two stubborn (mother) moles early in the spring that require using a trap, but after that the yard remains 100% mole-free with only one or two additional applications over the summer (depending on amount of rainfall and how sandy the soil is). My neighbors always ask how I keep my yard mole-free, so I tell them, but they never actually buy/use the repellent, they just buy more and more expensive traps - with very limited results. You can lead a horse to water...

Here in Michigan when the snow is deep the Voles will tunnel beneath the snow, and on the surface of the soil during winter, uprooting/killing grass wherever they go. I apply Sweeney's castor oil repellent in late fall just before the snow flies to repel them and it works like a charm. No need to water-in this application as you want the smell/taste to remain on the surface of the lawn as long as possible. The neighbors haven't caught on to this simple trick either.
