This was a super sweet romance novel and I really enjoyed reading this book. There weren’t any sex scenes to detract from the emotional connection and romance that developed b/w Dahlia and Garrett, the main characters. Dahlia comes back to Candle Beach community when she inherits her Aunt’s book store and house. She is living in Seattle and coming off of her divorce and believes that she should be living the ‘high life’ and travelling, not going to a sleepy beach town with her Aunt’s older friends. However, she goes and after more than a few snags, finds a new purpose and desire to stay. Garrett is a romance novelist writing under a female pen name. He arrives at Candle Beach to move on from his failed engagement and to write without any female distractions. Of course, enter Dahlia, enter a distraction lol. There was an instant chemistry, but both have their reservations. This was a great read and I was happy to read about the development of their relationship and not just have them not interested on page x and then in bed, in love on page x+1…although there is a HEA! I would recommend this book and can’t wait to read the others in this series.
Journeys of the heart can start in the most surprising places. And then lead to even more surprising places… Like a place to belong.
And there’s an adventurer inside of Dahlia, just crying to get out. Who knew her greatest adventure might lie in a little backwater town called Candle Beach?
And Garrett, who writes romance books, but can’t seem to find true love in real life… Well, Dahlia is irresistable, though, isn’t she? And fate keeps tossing them together. Maybe… just maybe…
This was a very enjoyable read about second chances and new beginnings, as the title implies. 4 ½ stars.
Dahlia Winters had inherited her Aunt Ruth's book store, To Be Read, in Candle Beach. She had been living in Seattle and floundering since her divorce. She just wanted to sell her aunt's bookstore and home, take the money and travel the world. That had always been her dream. But, the stipulations of the will were a bit more rigid. She could sell everything immediately or she would have to stay in Candle Beach and try to make a profitable business out of the bookstore and then she could sell it after a year. If the bookstore wasn't profitable, her aunt's friend, Agnes, would take it over and Dahlia would only get half of the sell. She was determined to make a go of it but she wasn't sure she really wanted to stick around. At least, until she met Garrett Callahan. . .
Garrett, was a famous romance novelist who wrote under a false female name. He had moved to Candle Beach so he could write without distractions. But, Dahlia was becoming a distraction. He was enchanted by her and couldn't get her off his mind. She also represented things he didn't like that he had found in his ex-fiance and mother. She was slightly and undependable at times. Could he set those things aside and accept her for who she was or should he get out before he got too deep into a relationship with Dahlia?
I won't give away more of the story but there was drama, suspense, a stalker, and a lot of growing up for Dahlia and a realization for both she and Garrett as to the most important things in life.
I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
