1. It was a fast-paced, quick read that was laugh out loud funny at times.
2. I really liked Justin's down-to-earth character. He has a great sense of humor, and is a good guy who tries to to the right things. I couldn't help but like the guy.
3. I liked the other characters as well.
4. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Corwin keeps up the tension in the story.
5. I never knew what was going to happen next, or know what direction John Corwin was going to take the story. I hate it when I can predict what is going to happen in a story.
I was torn between giving this a 4 and a 5 star rating. Ultimately, I gave it 5 stars. I don't think that it should be downgraded because it is fun YA fantasy.
Sweet Blood of mine is a refreshingly funny story about a total nerd named Justin Case. He and his friends get picked on by the “in crowd”, which includes members of the football team. He has been secretly in love with Katie for years, saves her from a bad situation, which only aggravates his enemies more. His life gets turned upside down and he makes situations worse with his own stupidity.
When he thinks things can't get any worse, he takes a good look at himself, decides he doesn't like what he sees, and attempts to recreate himself by going to a gym and getting a new image. What has he got to lose? He has alienated his friends, but new friends come from unexpected places.
He soon finds out that he has been living a very sheltered existence. His parents never told him there are supernatural beings in the world. One day he wakes up to find out he just may be one of them, with supernatural speed, strength, hearing, and sex appeal.
Not knowing where the “off switch” is for his super powers creates problems for him. He soon is drawing attention from all the wrong people. If he doesn't figure out what he is and get a handle on his newfound abilities, he may just put himself and those he cares about at risk.
1: Justin is probably the winner of the good category his dialog feels both human and sarcastic. He has few illusions of life and yet he still he still can't stop himself from trying. He sarcastic and in some instances heartbreakingly believable. The twist on the fact that he is an incubus that wants to only have sex with this his true love is genius it truly makes the story.
2: The cast of characters all have their own personality and I felt that the author did an amazing job with making them all stand out in some way. They do all have their own back story but he does not bog you down with everything that they have done instead letting them come out in an organic way.
3: The world is top notch you can see that the author spent a lot of time fleshing it out and it is a joy to read about. You get a sense of the world as Justin does without those huge info dumps that are so annoying.
4: The characters in this book all seem to grow in an organic way in the way that you can see how the different situations change them I felt that especially the growth of the main character was done very well.
5: This is probably the saddest of the 4 books so far it deal alot with school and the pressures that lie in it. I felt the writing was spot on and while there were painful scenes you get to see how Justin was before he becomes what he is.
1: ***Spoiler*** Okay by far throughout this entire series the absolute worst thing is the family relationships. This will be in my other reviews as I tackle them but I am only going to focus on each book at a time and it is the reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars. In this one Mom leaves right before his birthday, Dad falls into being drunk or gone, Justin finds out both have lied to him his whole life about well just about everything, Mom has also been blurring his memory to make him happier and hide her world from him. There is a saying in review circles called "Daddy hits me because he loves me" this means we have a character who abuse another character usually the main and yet this is somehow thought of as love. If I abandoned my kid, lied to her during her whole life, and was feeding her drugs to selectively make her forget memories I did not like, and abandoned her to an alcoholic parent would anyone consider me a good parent? And yet Justin through the series believes she loves him and only wants to get back with her. I don't know how the rest can be so good and yet that make it into this book.
I really liked this book but I felt that part of the plot was complete rubbish every time it came up it would break the immersion. If you can get past that part then you will really love this book. Would I recommend to a friend? Yes.
