SWEET CAPTIVITY held my heart prisoner!!! No words can possibly convey how wildly, PASSIONATELY, head over heels in love with this book I am. USA Today Bestselling Author Julia Sykes proves yet again why she is the queen of scintillating dark romantic suspense by weaving a deliciously twisty tale of obsessive love and sweet submission, passion and peril, that leaves you BREATHLESSLY begging for more!!!!
The Capture Fantasy trope always gives me tingly butterflies and this one is SUCH SWEET BLISS!! You are immediately swept up into this enthralling storyline and feel the electrifying chemistry between Colombian crime lord Andrés Moreno and his petrified, endearingly eccentric prisoner down to you core! This book has its fair share of dark and chilling moments, but it's also infused with so much hope and love and raw, exquisite beauty that it leaves you positively euphoric!!
Swoooooon….Andrés left me ALL AQUIVER!!!! I have loved each and every one of Julia Sykes' formidable Doms but this dangerous sexy dark knight is BY FAR my fave master to date!!!!!! Although a scarily-scarred Andrés is stern and forbidding, and can be intimidating AF, he is also so loving and nurturing and exquisitely sweet and tender that you can’t help but be powerfully, IRRESISTIBLY drawn to him!
And I loved Sam just as hard! What a brave, brilliant, adorably geeky heroine! I found her quirks incredible relatable and she was infused with the perfect blend of strength and fragility.
The passion that was poured into this beautiful, shiver-inducing love story was beyond AWE-INSPIRING! And holy blazes.....the sex was so carnal and scorching hot!!!!!!!! Julia Sykes choreographs the most titillating BDSM encounters, and the scenes of Sam’s slow sensual awakening in the arms of her fearsome captor are DELICIOUSLY arousing, but also heartwrenching too as she fights so hard against her traitorous desires for a deviant master who has entrapped her in his wicked lair. However, even in the most torturously twisted times, I clung to the hope that somehow Sam and Andrés could claw their way out of the darkness, and against all odds, become each other's light.
Bottom Line: SWEET CAPTIVITY inflamed my heart and fulfilled my every decadent fantasy!. A MUST READ for fans of spellbinding dark romances!!
Whilst I love author's work, I have occasionally struggle with some of her hero's. This has either been them ignoring the thoughts and feelings of the heroine because 'they know what is best for her' or giving 'punishments' because she doesn't behave in every day life how they want her too. In Sweet Captivity Andres actually listened to Sam's feelings, despite the fact that he was holding her in captivity, and modified his behaviour accordingly. And when he did unfairly punish her I felt Sam's reaction and subsequent thoughts and feelings were much more real than I've read in other books.
Whilst Sam's awkwardness with other people was mentioned, and actually became part of the reason she bonded with Andres, I still felt it was only brought into play when it behoved the plot, rather than being an ongoing characteristic. That said I loved her and the fact that she never gave up, and whilst there was some Stockholm Syndrome involved, it always felt like she was totally in control of her choices. She may have made choices she wasn't comfortable or happy with, for the sake of her sanity or safety, but she ultimately made her own decisions.
Andres was definitely an anti-hero you grew to love. He quickly grew to care for Sam and despite some of his actions he only wanted to care for her and protect her. When he saw how his anger was scaring Sam and he released her from the 'room' he stole my heart.
The book had me gripped, and because the majority involved just Andres and Sam it was very easy to buy into their chemistry and growing relationship. That said there is still plenty of action, lots of sizzing hot scenes and plenty of danger and angst.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, probably more so than most of the Impossible series, and can't wait to continue with the series.
Although I'm happy that Sam finally got her story, her HEA, and her secret desires granted, my heart broke for Dex at the end because he's such a sweetheart and he just wants to protect everyone. You can tell that he was blindsided by the fact that Sam was in love with him but also by her choice at the end. I hope that we can hear more from Sam in the future books in the Subversive Series.
