Vivian Lux has once and for all won me over to the rock star genre! I don’t know how it’s possible, but each new book is better than the last, and this book is a fantastic beginning to the Kings of Crown Creek series! Four small town brothers make it big in the music industry and then everything falls apart. Three brothers return home, but Jonah sets out to make it as a solo artist. After too much time away, the death of their beloved uncle and fellow musician, Gideon, brings Jonah back home. Not only does he have to deal with the sudden loss of an important role model and face the brothers he hasn’t spoken to in over two years, his sister's best friend, Ruby, gets in his face and won’t cut him any slack. That’s the part he likes, though, because somehow just being around Ruby breathes new life into him and he’s finally starting to feel again through the numbness his life had become.
Take a deep breath, roll up your sleeves and grab the Kleenex box as you dig into this one. I don’t even know where to start because there were so many things in this book that resonated with me. The plot was great, with some surprising curves thrown in, and Jonah and Ruby were amazing and amazing together. The sense of family was really special and so on target with the relationships and interactions between the siblings. And I don’t know what funerals, wakes and memorials are like for everyone, but the memorial for Gideon at the end of the book took me right back to times with my family after a couple of my family members passed away. Yes, there was sadness but there was much more fond remembrance, tribute, celebration of life and making memories that I still hold dear years later.
As I’ve come to expect from this author, she paints a picture of a fictional world that begs the reader to jump in feet first and become a part of the landscape. She creates characters that are realistic, larger than life, loveable and just enough flawed. Of course there’s a character who's more damaged than the rest and badly in need of redemption, Jonah, in this instance, and Ms. Lux manages to redeem him in a beautiful, spectacular way. Then she infuses the story with stunning word pictures, a little humor, a little heat, and a ton of heart, so before you know it, you’ve consumed the book and are left just a little stunned that it’s over and dying for another fix of the characters. This book will own your heart and seep into your soul, so hit that 1-Click and start reading immediately!
Two pages in and I knew - what you ask?
I knew this new book would be an all-consuming, maddening, impassioned romance I would be blocking out reality to digest.
Why? I am a big fan of stories of brooding arse like characters, ones who have a heart in there cold hard-shelled exteriors but have chosen to not show it due to what life dealt them (Jonah), or they've forgotten what it is to give and receive. Then, of course, there will be a woman who is just that right amount of everything to bring the out heart in him.( Ruby ) Having some brooding brothers, with humorous sides and naughty boy (Beau, Gabe, and Finn) attitudes are icing on the yummy cake in these romancing of lyrical woes tales! I cannot forget Claire, the younger sister who works in Reckless Falls. ( my favorite place, doesn't get any better than that )
So much emotional upset goes on! Watching everything unfold and transformations take place had a heart heavy, sexual overload ( not that I am complaining..) butterfly fluttering all over good feeling.
In other words, it was a purely addictive storyline! I swiped that last page my heart sunk- but knowing the next book is coming Lost Filthy Night, gives me hope!
I am already completely invested in the King Brothers and ecstatic to read Gabe's story!
Vivian Lux imo has created something spectacular I cannot wait to see all the places this goes!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
