Ryder and Harper are both furiously competitive and after a 13-year post college gap find themselves pitted against one another once again. When Harper returns to California to bid for a construction job the last thing that enters her mind is the sudden unexpected reunion with Ryder Rogers…. her college nemesis. ....and secret crush!
As the two come face to face it sets in motion the same tit-for-tat banter from their college days. Harper is a ballsy, tough as nails woman working in a man’s world. She’s a little powerhouse that will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
The thing that Harper didn’t plan on was the feelings for Ryder that would surface. Memories of that kiss 13 years ago, that rocked her world. Trying not to let this cloud her thoughts would prove to be much harder than imagined.
Especially when all she found herself thinking of was Ryder and his beard and those tats and that kiss all those years ago. Even though Ryder could push her buttons it was the sexual tension that kept them both on edge. I loved the banter that pushed and pulled that intense tension between them. I loved Harper’s resolve to get the job done with the ultimate. #RewardSex
But what happens in that moment of weakness when they can no longer ignore the white-hot heat between them?
Let’s just say that we figure out what the meaning of the term #Beardburn! And how could it not leave you swooning for Ryder?
What a super read Sweet Read is. ~sigh~
My only suggestion is that we need more Ryder and Harper!!
Now, some meat about the story (pun intended as it was hawt!).
This is a short novella written by K Bromberg in the 1001 Dark Nights series.
Harper and Ryder were rivals at college. Being utterly competitive and sharp as a knife Harper dominated Ryder, she was always on top … Sorry, sorry many innuendos here but the book is filled with them to my great pleasure.
So they exchanged a very hot kiss thirteen years ago and Haper left Ryder immediately. No, no he was not a bad kisser she just had her whole new life planned in another state.
Thirteen years late Harper is back in California to enter a secret bid in the construction world. Waiting in the security line she’s ogling a fin @ss in a suit dreaming about sex reward once she’ll win the bid. See, Harper is a shark. A woman in a man’s world but she’s eating unsuspecting suits for breakfast and spit their ties when she’s won. She’s just the best.
I adored her determination, her confidence and competitive mind. She knows what she wants and goes right to the jugular. You have to admire a woman walking like a queen when wearing a security helmet on a construction site while wearing a pencil skirt and pink high heels!
Of course said sexy suit she’s admiring turns to be none other than her former rival: Ryder.
They’ll both compete again and sparks will fly! Who will take control?
I loved the chemistry it nearly made me combust on the spot and Ryder was perfect for the role of sexy and smart business man: bearded, wearing glasses, sporting tattoos and a tone body under his crisp suit.
The story was rather short but their oral sparing (I speak about their banter, take your mind out of the gutter!) was really well done and funny. K. Bromberg gave us enough details to know Harper and Ryder so we could enjoy the ride.
So if you like it short (the story I mean), hot and playful I would recommend this novella in a heartbeat.
Sorry I’m playing naughty girl today!!! All that foreplay in the office just contaminated my innocent mind :-)
“Tell me what to do, Harper.”
It’s a quickie, but a goodie and I never thought I would see the day that K Bromberg could condense her words to 120 pages.
It is hard to really connect with characters in such few pages but K Bromberg managed to spark that connection with Sweet Rivalry. While we are treated to a smidgeon of their back story it was just enough to whet the appetite and have you itching to see just what was in store for Ryder and Harper.
Ryder and Harper were bitter rivals in grad school, both were fantastic at what they did, self-assured, opinionated and highly competitive. These two fuelled one another along, to get better, to be better and more importantly to win. Their fierce rivalry though gave way to an undercurrent of sexual tension of which the culmination of was one kiss. That kiss left its mark though, but when would these two cross paths again?
“The sweet rivalry between us just became a whole lot sweeter.”
Over a decade later, walking into an office to compete for a huge construction project Ryder and Harper come face to face once again. Rivals once again, but it seems that sizzle is still there and the way that these two just look at one and other, combustion isn’t far away.
“I got off thinking about you last night.”
These two were seriously hot together and the undercurrent of sexual tension was captured perfectly. This was a quick light read, perfectly paced and with fantastic banter that will have you smiling from ear to ear. But more than that, this was a story of morals, trust and believing in doing the right thing. No matter how many years spent apart, some things are worth a lot more than a wedge of green.
Totally loved it.
