IN THE CARDS by Lynn LaFleur
This story had a lot of potential. Catherine dreams of a man and has for years. When she is looking for a birthday card for her sister, she sees a card with that man. She is amazed! She is even more amazed when she wakes up the next day to see him out of the card. It could have been a story about fighting the sorceress or overcoming obstacles or any number of things. Instead, it was a let down for me. It seemed like there were these huge terrible odds so they gave up but then without any real explanation, everything is fine, no problem. That was a little bit frustrating. Also, the story was so completely focused on Kane being cursed that the rest of it was kind of forgotten. I usually love short stories but this one just didn't cut it. A lot of details and pieces in the plot line were left out. I probably would have liked it a lot more if it had been a longer book, but it just felt flat and incomplete.
LOVE ME FOREVER by Ari Thatcher
This was a sweet story. Jen and Matt met while they were working for a resort in Maui ten years ago. They had one great summer with the hope of something to continue when they went back to college. However, due to circumstances and flukes, that did not happen. They both went on to live lives that they didn't love. Matt worked as a day trader but got no satisfaction and Jen gave up her dreams for a man. Now they are both back on Maui moving past that stage in their lives. They reconnect on a deep level. However, Jen remembers the past she had with her ex and goes back home, afraid of what a future with Matt might mean.
It was a good read. It was not exceptional but I enjoyed it. Matt was sweet and understanding and sensitive to what Jen needed as she moved on from her past and her ex while rediscovering her dreams and what she wanted out of life. I probably won't read it again but it was worth reading once.
A PATCHWORK ROMANCE by Ann Jacobs
Jared owns a software company in Atlanta but he grew up in a small town. His fiance recently broke up with him and he is feeling restless so he goes back home looking for whatever it is he is missing. He returns to his family home, destroyed by decades of the harsh elements. Finding a scrap of fabric left from his mother's quilts, he goes looking for a quilt-maker.
Althea Simmons is the best quilt-maker in her small town. Still reeling from her fiance's death a year ago, she is angry and afraid but looking for a change. When Jared walks in to her shop asking about a quilt, the sparks fly and she decides he is a good person with whom to have a fling and then get on with her life.
As time goes on and they spend a lot of time together, Jared falls in love. Althea, while she enjoys spending time with Jared is very afraid of loving someone again. Eventually they move past it to find HEA.
This story was okay but I didn't love it. The set up was great and the spark was there but it felt slow going. Also, Althea's fear, while somewhat understandable was drawn way out. It just kept coming up when everyone was frustrated with her refusal to even listen to Jared, from Jared to her brother to her friends, even the reader and Althea herself. I can understand the difficulty of losing someone and risking reliance again but it just got to a ridiculous point. It seemed to me that the story had to read a certain length, regardless of the quality. It kind of ruined the ending for me in that way. It was a good story and Ann Jacobs is a great writer and usually enjoy her work but the ending was just not satisfying.
LOVE THROUGH A LENS by Lucy Felthouse
I wasn't sure about this story when I read the blurb but I liked it more than I expected. Edward is a star on the downhill side of his career. He is very popular and well known but he is also aging and there is new talent coming up in the world. Celine is right out of school and looking to make her mark on the world as a fabulous camerawoman. The two of them work very closely on a low budget project, leaving them with a lot of time alone together. They get to know each other very well and fall in love. Celine doubts that Edward really cares about such a newbie and Edward is worried that she is turned off by his age. They work through their issues and decide to give it a shot.
This story was very well written and I enjoyed it. Lucy Felthouse did an amazing job with the writing and imagery. She put me in the story, to experience it and not read it. It was great. The age different though, turned me off. I could not really get into it because Edward is more than twice Celine's age. That just weirded me out a little bit. If you like that, this will be a great story for you. It's just not really my style.
MAJOR PLEASURE by Denise A Agnew
This story had SO much potential! Army Special Forces Major Blayne Forbes has lusted after his best friend's little sister since he met her. Jemma Teagan has been in love with Blayne almost as long. They have been dancing around it for as long as they have known each other. When an unexpected snow storm traps them together overnight, they act on it. It is great but neither know if it can go further due to Blayne's career and Jemma's family. They take a break to figure it out but realize they are in love and can't live without each other.
At that point, it kind of just ends. It isn't finished or followed out. The beginning of the story was very well written and evenly paced and great. However, as the end got closer, the details were fewer, the explanation were less and the unexplained jumps more frequent. There were also secrets or seeds of questions that were brought up, some of them apparently significant, that were never explained or followed through on. That ruined it for me a little bit because it just ended. They didn't really live happily ever after, they just decided to try it. That's kind of it. They didn't work through their fears or anything. It had so much potential and then just stopped. That was really disappointing.
LOVING A GO-GO by Anh Leod
This was a weird story for me. It was completely about Lexie and Adrian's lust for boots. The fact that the other one lusted for boots was the main point of attraction for each other. That was weird to me. Anh Leod did bring in outside ideas in an attempt to make it more rounded out but it didn't work for me. None of that is to say others won't like this story. I am sure that boot fetishists exist and more power to them. I am just not one of them.
ESCAPING THE PAST by LM Connolly
This was the high point of this whole collection. It was well written and told a fabulous story! I really loved it.
Gary Mazzini is related to one of the Italian crime families and it destroyed his childhood. Now that he is a successful businessman in his own right, he refuses to get involved with them again and is sure to keep his business clean. Jade is a Brit working in one of Gary's investments and they meet at a company party. Sparks fly but she is mugged on the way out, resulting in them spending the night together in comfort. Through quite a bit of intrigue and mystery, it turns out that she may be involved in some shady stuff but Gary believes she is innocent and sets out to prove it. Along the way, they fall in love, go undercover and protect each other from his family and the Company.
I really enjoyed this story. The intrigue was a great plot mover and made it hard to put down. That said, some of it was hard to follow, making it difficult to explain here. It was a fun read and very involved but it would have been better with an eye toward editing and refining in some places. Very much worth reading.
CAT'S PLAY by Marilu Mann
I loved this story! Really this was my favorite story in the whole collection and makes the collection worth reading, despite the disappointment of some of the other stories. Cath is caught trying to re-appropriate some antique geisha treasures from a rich playboy. Shenanigans ensue in order to get information. There is a sweet twist at the end that I loved. Really it was a fabulous story. Well written and clearly well researched, it had a good balance of romance and intrigue with a sweet ending. I loved it! It is a sweet story that goes fast and is satisfying.

Were are equally good stories.
Sweet Sensations Book Set is made up of 8 novels by 8 different authors. While each of them have different plots and characters- they all have romance and sexual encounters that vary in heat level.
My favorite of all of them had to be In the Cards by Lynn LaFleur. It was the story of Catherine Ryan and her fantasy man come to life from a Birthday Card. Even though the story was totally far fetched-it was one all woman could totally relate to. You see your fantasy man in a picture or in her case a card and you wish him to come to life. In this case her dream man became a reality. Lynn really knows how to write really great erotic love scenes between Catherine and Ryan. There was a twist to the story that I really enjoyed. Plus, the ending of the book will put a smile on your face as well.
After reading the book from Lynn LaFleur I would be interested in reading more from her.
