They become friends, but ya know, friends who are attracted to each other & who really want more. And it's looking like their sweet little friendship-to-romance story is going to slip in fairly easily. And then, Grace says something she doesn't mean, exactly, Sawyer does something stupid, and hearts are pretty well ripped up.
This part is very well written, doesn't annoy me because the author does a good job of setting it up & explaining what each character is thinking, and (my favorite) DOESN'T LAST FOREVER. We get the Sawyer & Grace are working on a relationship & banding together to fight outside forces portion of the story for most of the book. *swoons*
I enjoyed the first book (enough to want to read this one right away after it, even tho it was 3AM when I finished FT), but I ADORED this one. The things Grace has been through, how we get to know Sawyer's family, the friendships w/in their circle of friends... it all works very well together.
And CHRISTMAS! Christmas is at the end, and it is amazing, and it made me smile HUGE! 10++ stars for this story (even tho there is a LOT of sex bc Sawyer is a horn dog as mentioned LOL) and I will soon be getting the PB (happy dance) and it is going on my favorites/re-read shelf. : )
Grace knows Sawyer and his reputation with the females and wants to avoid him at all costs. Her past haunts her still, flooded with memories of the tragic loss of her mother. However, Grace still wants to see the good in the world and finds herself allowing Sawyer in pieces at a time. But when the past rears its ugly head and shows up kicking at her door, our Sexy Seal dives in to save the girl.
This story has a lot of laughs and banter which I truly love in a book. It has the pain of loss of a loved one but also shows that the right person will do ANYTHING to help ease and/or erase that pain from your life. This was an awesome continuation of the Men of Honor Series and KC Lynn is quickly becoming one of my go to writers automatically.
I would first like to point out how incredibly unlikely it is that all of these severely troubled people would just so happen to end up in the same small town. In both of these books we have a heroine who is a damsel-in-distress and needs to be saved or healed by the hero of the story. I wanted to see if the author would do anything differently with this book in comparison to the first, but that isn't what happened. Jaxson and Sawyer are also the same person. The exact same person. I'm not a huge fan of authors who tend to write their books according to a formula (hence, not a Nicholas Sparks fan).
Grace was sweet and innocent. I didn't mind her character too much. She was very dramatic and over the top at times. She also cried a lot. But I could have still liked her character instead of just feeling indifferent toward her if she would have stood up for herself to Sawyer more frequently. Then whenever she did make a sassy comment, he would act like she always kept him on his toes which was CLEARLY not the case.
As I said, Sawyer was the exact same character as Jaxson from the first book. Including constantly yelling at Grace the way Jaxson did with Julia. I would say the same thing that I did about the other book, the relationship was borderline verbally abusive. I hated that Grace would let him speak to her the way he did given everything she had gone through. It's one thing to write Alpha Males into books when they are paired with strong women who can hold their own against them. But Julia and Grace were each written as weak characters. The relationships in these stories were not balanced. It made them kind of hard to read at times.
I definitely won't be continuing with this series. I'm not interested in reading another story with the same exact characters only with different names.
