My problems with this one were many.. First interaction Kat says: "this is a d.. k-free zone!"Can't she speak better?
They meet once and after he asked her for trust... Trust is something you built with time and not asking for it. Further they continue to play with this world. Knowing each other for just some hours they were supposed to confess all their secrets. That's naive.
Their interactions were stupid, superficial, not believable. The characters were too fake and unrealistic and childish.
She admitted angryly during some argument that she has been with 12 guys. Right away she announced quickly statistics: 3 if them did that, 4 that, 3 was like that and so on! Just wow! She kept so good stats that she was able to say the number of men and their types in a very uncomplicated way. With a few characteristics she had put them in a 3,4 groups! So stupid! He just stared at her then. I would stare too!
The band find them in the bedroom and see her naked. The H gets angry, upset and kicked them out of the room because obviously they couldn't say sorry and leave. The h then get mad with the H, like, what's the big deal, they saw her naked and it's okey with her! She insisted that Nico should apologise to them because that showed aggressive side of his character! But how this happened if she was all blushing before? How any male would react to this, his friends to walk in the bedroom, see his naked woman and start joking around? How any woman would feel in this position?
The hole story until 48% (when I had enough) was stupid and the characters not likable! If I couldn't care about them, then why bother to finish?
J.T. Gessinger starts off her new series Bad Habits, with a bit of Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll.. and more than a little intense romance.
Kat Reid has a pretty good life. An excellent reputation as a make up artist, good friends and her own home in LA.. Then she's drawn into an entirely different world when she goes to a typical make up job, only to become the star of the video.. It seems the model/actress that was hired is too doped up to keep going and the lead singer has fallen for Kat. He wants her so of course he gets her.. only he wants her for more than the video and Kat? She's not so sure.
Nico Nyx came out of nowhere and became a star. His talent is fast becoming legendary and his looks? Let's just say, I see panties strewn across any stage he is on. But he has a dark and dangerous past, one that drags him down on a regular basis. None of that matters when he see Kat Reid, somehow he knows, she's it. Only she doesn't seem the least bit interested. How can Nico overcome his reputation and make Kat take him seriously?
Ms. Gessinger tells a dark and troubled romance and folks, this is not a pretty story. There is so much dysfunction going on it's scary. But it works.. this story worked because these two characters were so flawed, they have that Heathcliffe and Cathy thing going on, sort of.. You know where they are thoroughly unlikable characters but you keep reading about them?? Except.. Kat and Nico aren't that dis-likable. They have potential..
It's a tug of war of emotions. A dark and sinister past plays into Nico and Kat's chance of love and both of them have to step out and really trust in the other. As I read this book, I kept thinking I wasn't liking it. It disturbed me but I kept going because I had no choice. Ms. Gessinger pulled me in and I wept for these two. Now? I am waiting not very patiently for book two.
This books gets 5 stars.. why? Because as dark and disturbing as it was, I believed!

Kat's friends keep you laughing. Grace the therapist with her blunt and often crass way of speaking, and Chloe the florist who is a sweet Amazon of a girl. I highly recommend this book.
I loved Kat and how true she was. She stood up for a girl who was under the weather, even though she didn't know her. I liked that she was that kind of strong, confident woman. She caught Nico's eye and tried to keep him at arms length, but Nico was a persistent fella!
I enjoyed meeting the secondary characters, particularly Kat's friends Chloe and Grace; they were like the Angel and Devil that gave advice in any situation. I loved that she had people that she could rely on at any moment, that didn't take crap either! Nico's band members supported him when he needed them, but I'm not sure about A.J. I think I'd like to see more of him, he's not rubbing me the right way as yet...
I was hoping to really enjoy this one, but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me. Nico seemed a little too much alpha male and over protective, not wanting Kat to make any decisions for herself. Kat made stupid decisions at times when she should've listened. It was like they couldn't get on the same page at the same time. I'm also wondering if the narration was one of the reason's I couldn't connect to these characters and I think I should've read the book instead! I do hope that I try her work again in the future though.

I teared up more then once reading this but I also smiled a lot at the banter between Nico and Kat and between their respective friends!
The chemistry and connection they had was extremely strong, if ever there was case for love at first sight, it's these two, while Kat wasn't going to enter straight into a relationship with Nico giving the situation when they first met, there was no denying the instant connection and spark between them when they first set eyes on each other.
Their relationship only grew stronger the more time they spent together cause whatever Nico's faults (he has a temper) he is always honest with Kat and keeps his promises to her, which is important to Kat considering her past.
They were good for each other and I was routing for them all the way! They had some really tough moments in the book which I won't go into as I believe it will be far more powerful to experience them for yourselves, but I will say they came out at the end, maybe not unscarred, but certainly stronger.
I can't wait for the rest of the books in the series. Honestly, this book was amazing and gripped me from start to finish. JT has the start of a truly great new series in this book! I'd highly recommend it!
Loved her characterisations and thought it had a good, strong background story to support the sheer off the scale chemistry going on between the two main protagonists.
I love a good, bossy Alpha and the passion sizzled.
I also love a strong, independent, free thinking heroine and Kat was fabulous.
Totally escapism. Loved it.
Two: how can any review this awarding one star? As an example of the genre this is brilliant, well written interesting plot superb characters. As volume one in a series I cannot wait to read the stories of the other characters. I hope the one - two and three star reviewers can sleep.at night! But of Nico in me, my way or the highway?
