Compassion is the key to the story SWEETER FOR THE PAIN.

A young woman, Nicole, goes to help her cousin get his new retreat ready for the grand opening. On the way, her car breaks down, she stops at a dark house, and she meets a mysterious man as he comes out of the forest carrying a rifle.

Not wanting to give away the plot, I will tell you the man’s face is disfigured on one side from an accident that took his wife and son’s life. Over the course of the story, Nicole deals with issues pertaining to some of the other helpers but finds her mind constantly on the man with the scarred face.

Evan Asher brings you into the small world of a burgeoning resort along with all the trials that go along with such an undertaking. He weaves love into the fabric of live where it was thought that none would go.

I’ll leave it to you to read the book to find out what happens. The story was well written and though I thought it started a little slow, it keeps the reader glued to the pages.

I give this book 4 stars.

This is the second book I've read by this author. I loved it! Here's why:

1. The characters. They sparkle with life and vitality. You could meet people like these anywhere. They felt comfortable, natural and real. Their actions made perfect sense in the context of their personalities. I especially liked the hero, Finn. I could feel his pain and internal conflict. It twisted me up inside.
2. The pacing. I can't abide books that belabor the extraneous details page after page, slowing the pace to a crawl. That doesn't happen here. Without skimping on description, the story proceeds at breakneck speed that has the reader feverishly turning pages to see what happens next.
3. The plot. Great. Just great. But I don't want to give spoilers. But trust me, it's a wonderful story.

If I had to pick one thing to complain about, it would be this. At the very end, when Finn experienced his rapid about face, it seems to happen a bit abruptly. As a girl, I would have liked to experience the mental and emotional machinations by which he decided his whole world view needed altering. It wasn't there.

But that's a very small pick, not even worth a star, so I say, unabashedly, that this is a great, fun, fast-paced book that romance thriller lovers should adore. I did.
Well done, Mr. Asher.

Evan Asher is a great writer! I have to hand it to him. The way that he described the passion and emotion that was shared between Nicole and Finn was simply masterful! This romance was penned in such away that I felt myself experiencing the emotions were being portrayed throughout the story. Now that's good writing! I gave this one 4 stars in spite of the fact that the plot was a bit bland and the love that was shared between the two main characters wasn't convincing. I also did not enjoy how abruptly the story ended. But none the less, Asher's writing and description of the romance itself was worth every minute. I found myself highlighting many parts of this book, which I never do by the way, all because of the way that Nicole and Finn's passion was portrayed with such deep and touching descriptions. I found myself smiling pretty much the whole time that I was reading this book so it is definitely a good read!

I found this novel intriguing from start to finish and could not put it down until I read it all! The suspense had me biting my nails throughout the novel and I was always concerned about what would happen to the main characters next perpetuating the suspense!
I love Nicole. I found her to be a very intelligent and generous hearted woman. Finn was the classic beast. The romance between the main characters was sweet and very passionate. I will be looking out for more of Evan's wonderful stories in the future!

Lightweight, enjoyable contemporary romance. Sweet-natured and a fun, quick read, though the mystery isn't very mysterious and the villain, to me, was pretty obvious. Nicole doesn't strike me as the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but I admired her willingness to go beyond the scars and gossip to see who Finn really is, and it was heartwarming to read about Finn learning to reach out and love again. Some spicy scenes but not explicitly detailed.

This was a bit too dull for my tastes. The plot was solid if a bit thin but it was apparent from the beginning how everything would conclude (and not referring to the HEA). Im a huge Beauty and the Beast fan but id have preferred to skip this one altogether.

The story is about Nicole Ross, an author who is taking a break and travels to a place called Pine View Retreat in Arkansas to help her cousin start up a hotel. On her way her car breaks down and she is helped by a mysterious stranger whose face she can only partially see. Both feel an instance pull and attraction to each other. Later it turns out the man she met was Finn Erikson, a neighbour who lives as a recluse as a result of an accident that killed his wife and young son and left him partially disfigured. Strange and untrue stories are circulated about him and he is generally feared and left alone. Despite this Nicole is strangely drawn to him and a number of chance encounters eventually leads to Nicole breaking down his barriers to get closer to him. The attraction for each other is mutual and Finn does try hard to resist but is in the end overwhelmed by the strength of his feelings so he succumbs. Someone in the background however doesn't want this relationship to succeed and unfortunately a stolen notebook which is brought to Finn's attention results in him feeling deeply betrayed.

Can Nicole set the record straight and make Finn believe she isn't what he thinks and can Finn now live without Nicole? You really need to read this to find out.

I really enjoyed this cute love story. Its beautifully written and you can actually understand the feelings between Nicole and Finn which are very sensuous and intense. It does leave one feeling all warm and gooey inside and with a smile on my face at the end. Love Happy Endings!

This is the second book I have read by Evan Asher and once again I found myself reading it through from start to finish, barely putting it down. I even temporarily abandoned the book that I was reading. Such a shame I have no more to read from this author until he publishes his next book.

From the moment the book began I was reeled in. This is because the interest of the reader is grabbed from the start - read it and you'll see why.

The characters are believable, as I would expect from Asher, but I was impressed even more so because of the consistency in behavior of all of the characters. I found myself wanting to know more about the male lead - he is very closed off at first so his story was a pleasing journey of discovery for me as the reader and I got my wish.

The setting is tranquil, quite serene but I guess this is a matter of opinion. I personally love walking in the woods so for me the setting was perfect and I could really relate to the female lead who enjoys the same thing.

I feel that the male leads scars were tackled in a really nice way. (Warning: Little spoiler to follow) I found myself hoping that he wouldn't get corrective surgery so was relieved that he didn't.

From start to finish a sweet romantic story with a splash of beautifully written sensuality. I highly recommend it.
