Drew Haizea is an Air witch that is coddled in every bit of his life. His mother is tired of him being a deadbeat and marks him as a rogue which allows other witches to kill him on sight, though few would dare. Without the rogue status being lifted, Drew must man up and dodge the assassins that are out to get him. I was intrigued to see if he could put aside his selfishness and help someone else, his character seemed like he would take the easy way out.
While this is book two in the series, this can be read as a standalone. I'm a fan of witch stories, so I thought it was unique that the male was the witch while the female was human. Toss in that the main character being plus sized makes this story different from the others in this genre. I love ABreton's writing, if you're a fan of paranormal books with romance you'll enjoy Sweetly Bad.

I'd not read Wickedly Good, but these are stand alone novels, though linked by characters from each book so its still fine to read one without the other. Hurrah, like a series but without Horrible Cliffhangers!
Erica was a great female lead, strong, independent, curvy (hurrah!!) and ones of those genuinely kind people who never the less aren't afraid to speak their mind, in a tactful way. And Drew certainly needed someone like her in his life. He's a selfish egotist, brought up believing he has a right to whatever, and whoever he wants. That's partly his mothers fault, she seems to be a powerful influence, and let her boys do whatever they want. He turns up at Erica's garage with his broken down Ferrari, just as his mum has decided enough is enough, and its time he grew up and stood up for himself. Erica has had a bad time in past and her last ex is still harassing her to sell him her garage. Her sister walks all over her, continually using her to babysit, playing the guilt card. Poor Erica, she needs money and support, what she gets is a harassing ex, a user sister, and now a yuppie playboy...it's time life gave her a break.
Drew, he was so typical of those in that group - the people who think their money and influence makes them important. Its not until he calls his string of girlfriends, who know he's now rogue. therefore money and powerless, that he realises just how shallow his life is, and that no-one wants to help him. He thinks Erica, being a little plump, will fall at his feet if he crooks his finger, and yet...she doesn't. She has some terrific comebacks, but her heart means she can't just leave him when she hears everyone dumping him. Its great too, to have for a change a male lead who's not Mr Wonderful at everything. When he kisses Erica and she tells him he's awful at it, his shock is so funny. She's right though, when books say "devoured with a kiss" they don't mean we want to be hoovered into the man's mouth, feeling suffocated and that we need to hold on to something to stop us disappearing down a throat... or slobbered on. That's really off-putting, that feeling you need to wipe your face after a sloppy, saliva laden kiss. He's a quick learner though, and somehow these two total opposites soon are into some hot and heavy action, and Drew is making some good changes to his life.
Its a short book though so the action takes place over a couple of days, rather than weeks, which is harder to accept. The paranormal witchy bit too is very short, really only a side issue to the story, providing reasons for his being money/power less. Its a fun read, but very light - a sort of Angel Delight book, like the dessert it's light and airy, easy to finish but then after that you really want a bit more substance. Priced at £2.48 for 142 pages/252kb its not cheap, though id its one you'd re read that adds to the VFM ratio. For me though its just a one off read.
I was totally on board with this book just from the description of Erica. I wanted to read about a sexy woman with curves getting her happily ever after. I, myself, am a woman with curves and I hate reading book after book after book where every heroine is a size two but has huge breasts. That is not normal and so many of them fulfill that description. I was so ready for a different heroine and I got her. Curvy girl and a mechanic? Awesome!
At the same time I was fascinated by Drew. As evidenced by the below excerpt, Drew was not Mr. Fantastic. He was barely Mr. Mediocre. He moved through life through his wealth and when he lost his connection to it, he lost all desirable qualities. It was so refreshing to see a man not be perfect but with a tortured past. I love it when they are a bit different and also inability leads to great quality.
This book was full of conflicts from magic to exes and it was a full-throttle adventure. Drew had bounty hunters flooding the garage and Erica had a troubling ex. Between the groups I was enraptured with the action-adventure and didn't want to stop reading. It was a bit slow to start as the characters were introduced but by the time the action began, I was floored.
I was kind of happy this was the second book because that gives me an excellent excuse to pick up the first book and hopefully enjoy it all the more. I don't have loads of experience with Ellora's Cave but I'm really curious about this line and am looking forward to following it. It's totally worth the few dollars for an awesome story about a curvy girl and her needing-to-be-taught lover.
