“A beautifully drawn story about comfort food and family and grief, it’s a delightful read. Recommended.” -Otaku USA Magazine
A Recipe for Family
Having lost his wife, math teacher Kôhei Inuzuka is doing his best to raise his young daughter Tsumugi as a single father. He's pretty bad at cooking and doesn't have a huge appetite to begin with, but chance brings his little family and one of his students, Kotori Iida, together for homemade adventures. With those three cooks in the kitchen, it's no wonder this dinner table drama is so delicious.

So very sweet.
I read many, many comic books when I was a kid, from "Little Lulu" to "Classics Illustrated." We called them "funny books" back then, even those that weren't funny at all. My older brother and I stayed current on our favorites by picking them up from the rack at our local drugstore. 10 cents each! (I'm old.) But I learned early to enjoy comics as a legitimate form of literature.
This is a sweet little book to start experimenting with manga reading. The story line concerns a dad, whose wife has recently died. He is a teacher. He's now raising his little daughter by himself, trying to learn to cook decent meals for her. He has zero experience. One of his students steps in to help. She has very few cooking credentials herself, as it turns out, but together the three of them set out on a cooking and eating adventure, and their relationship grows.
Some have mentioned the oddness of a male teacher and a female student having any kind of relationship outside of school. But I think this sort of thing is viewed in a different light in Japanese manga. It is a lovable little story, (with recipes!) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are sequels. I have already ordered the second one.
I have found that with manga, as well as with any other literary media, you do have to be selective about what you choose, if there are topics you would rather avoid. And for those who are not at all familiar with manga, a heads up: you read from back to front.
Again, I highly recommend this series for those who would like to start reading manga and want something simple to start with.

It's super sweet, cute, and has a lovely family dynamic.
The girls crush on the guy is a bit weird but natural as all teenagers tend to feel like it so I hope she grows out of it.

The artwork is amazing and the dialogue is fun and breezy, with an appropriate layer of melancholy to it.
A must read if you want your heart and stomach to jump with joy.

Warning: will make you hungry.
