Bottom line: the writing wasn't strong enough to rise above a common plot and an obvious need for editing. It might just be that I am tired of books about cocky, rich jocks, but Cade didn't do it for me. He was so pleased with himself and his general air of amused smugness just made me want to punch him in the face. Ainsley seemed like a nice, overworked woman who could have been worth reading more about, and it's too bad she didn't have a more worthy male protagonist. At 20%, I wasn't invested enough to continue, so this was a DNF for me.
Ainsley was tough as nails and I enjoyed her so much because we don't see many heroines out there like her. She was driven and focused, and her resilience was really inspiring. I loved her sass and her snark. But I also loved when she put her guard down and showed how caring, compassionate, and vulnerable she could really be.
Cade was so much fun to read. He was so unpredictable and I found myself laughing out loud at his antics, anecdotes, and overall personality. He was cocky sometimes but always in an endearing way often making me want to slap him upside the head and swoon at the same time. I never knew what he was going to say out of his month and that made reading him exciting.
Together Ainsely and Cade were super sweet one minute and making you want to hashtag relationship goals and then five alarm five hot the next minute making you want a cold glass of water. I enjoyed their build up. The chase and then when caught how their relationship developed. Their chemistry was undeniable and their connection was truly genuine.
Sierra Hill has an incredible tone to her writing that I just adore. It's funny without trying too hard and has a natural pace and flow to it that makes reading really enjoyable. If this book was a game winning shot, it would absolutely be nothing but net. I highly recommend it.
Ainsley is trying to better herself from the life she has had to lead with her mom not being a great mom and taking care of her younger sister. She has drive and focus of where she wants to be in life and what it takes to get there.
Cade is a star basketball player and he has his Senior year of college left to score big on and off the court until he gets arrested and has to make amends.
There meeting was by chance and but their lives intersected and they needed each other in the end. Great book, looking forward to the next one.
