Many of the recipes require the use of date paste, which Laura gives the recipe for in this book. I stopped by my local Costco to pick up both deglet noor and medjool dates since they're required for other recipes, too, and was able to make the date paste in just a few minutes. So far I've made the lemon cookies and the peanut butter cups, and both have been amazing! (As you can see in the photo, my lemon cookies didn't turn out to look *quite* like they do in the book, but it didn't matter much as I devoured them!)
If you're used to using ingredients like cacao powder, you won't need to pick up many new ingredients, but I did need to order some yacon syrup, which is used in a few recipes.
If you need to be careful with your fat intake or have difficulties with nuts, be warned that several recipes do use nuts and coconut.
Each recipe is accompanied by a full-page color photo, and Laura also has a YouTube channel and blog, where she regularly posts tips and new recipes.
As I mentioned, I already own quite a few raw dessert cookbooks and wasn't really sure if I needed another, but I am so glad I bought this. I love that she recipes use natural sweeteners like dates and maple and yacon syrups instead of sugar, and eating these sweet treats feels like you're nourishing your body with healthy ingredients.
UPDATE ON 1-23-17: I've made the PB cups twice now -- and they are AMAZING! I was worried that my husband wouldn't like them because they use the yacon syrup and date paste, but they taste like pure decadent goodness. I can see why Laura says that she makes them each week. The freeze really well, too, (the first photo of them has a bit of a frosty sheen on them, but it melts right off), and are really easy to make.
