What Puts the Sweet in Swerve?
The secret to Swerve’s zero-calorie sweetness is a combination of erythritol and oligosaccharides.
If you’ve ever visited a brewery, you’ve gotten a peek into how fermentation works. Erythritol is made by fermenting glucose with Moniliella pollinis, a natural microorganism. It also naturally occurs in many fruits and vegetables like melons, grapes and asparagus. Erythritol is classified by the FDA as a zero-calorie, 4-carbon sugar alcohol that does not affect blood glucose.
Oligosaccharides are sweet, non-digestible carbohydrates sourced from select fruits and starchy root vegetables. Oligosaccharides are prebiotic fibers, so they’re not only tasty, but they can help stimulate beneficial bacteria in your gut.
Swerve: Our Passion for Health and Quality
Swerve is a small, independently owned company headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Swerve team, together with co-founder Andress Blackwell, developed Swerve as a tool for blood sugar stabilization. Helping educate consumers on the dangers of excessive sugar consumption has been a passion of Andress’ for 15+ years.
Swerve is committed to sourcing only the highest quality raw materials available.
Browns & Caramelizes
One of the unique functions of Swerve is its ability to brown and caramelize like sugar. Even when making Crème Brule, you can get a crunchy, tasty torched crust. Swerve also performs extremely well in meringues, allowing you to accomplish a stiff peak. Use Swerve just like you would sugar for recipes that require caramelizing.
If you’re looking for a keto friendly sweetener, Swerve is your go-to. With zero net carbohydrates, Swerve does not impact blood sugar or insulin levels. You can use it easily in all of your low-carb baking and cooking recipes without the worry of a blood sugar spike. Just like fiber, when counting macros you can subtract any Swerve that is used in your recipe to get a true net carb count.
Measures Just Like Sugar
When it comes to baking and cooking, Swerve is the easiest and tastiest sugar replacement to use. Cup-for-cup, Swerve replaces sugar in all of your recipes. If you need a half cup of sugar; simply replace with a half cup of Swerve. And you won’t get any bitter aftertaste that is often associated with high intensity sweeteners like stevia and monkfruit.

I've used swerve for baked goods, Keto fat bombs, sauces, and even lemonade. Since we have a backyard lemon tree we always have a great supply of lemons. Using swerve in place of sugar is a bit costly, but if you make a nice pitcher full of lemonade and pour in about a cup of vodka, grab a glass of ice and lemon slices, you don't mind the cost so much anymore. ;-)
I do try to stock up when I find it on sale someplace, and then I hoard it like it's made out of gold because it is so expensive. I really wish I could find this in larger bags at Costco. If this was in larger amounts at a better cost I would use and buy it more often instead of using it for the occasional treat. As for now I try to use it sparingly, especially in recipes I've never made before.
I had to go low carb due to Metabolic syndrome - ugh. It's nice to have a few of the old favorites although, honestly, I don't crave sweets so much anymore. My blood sugar is now rock solid, I've dropped 42lbs and I feel 15 years younger. I tried everything, so far low carb/ healthy fats diet is the only thing that's worked. Now I can say I'm a recovering carb-aholic. The swerve helps with my recovery.
Eat less, eat better. I'd complain about the price, but I'm spending far less money on food than ever before and frankly, treats should be treats, not a habit.
[+] No glycemic response (amazing, especially considering other sweeteners still have a glycemic response)
[+] Absolutely NO digestive upset (unlike the other common sweeteners around)
[+] On a low carb diet (for diabetes and/or weight loss)? This is the perfect sweetener to keep your cravings in-check
[+] This is in 'powdered' form, so you can use it anywhere 'confectioners sugar' or 'powdered sugar' is found. (Swerve also has a granulated version if you need it... both work well, for different purposes.)
[-] The 'ziploc' type seal is somewhat frustrating. It takes a few tries to line up the 'zipper'. I won't deduct a star (*) rating though, as this is not going to keep me from recommending or buying this in the future

I use it in my hot drinks and my baking and although if has a bit of a cooling taste to it I think it's much better than the others I've tried.
