It never ceases to amaze me the number of different situations that can be crammed into the contrived formula of a three-part Dora adventure. This book is a very standard example.

It's not like Dora can simply go to the beach, she has to call on the map to find out how to get there, and then she has to get through obstacles along the way. I guess that's what appeals to the kids, after all.

In this adventure we have to go over Flying Fish bridge (where we have to count the fish and name their colors in both English anB Spanish) and then we have to go through the maze of the Silvery Sand Dunes. My four-year-old daughter is into mazes, so she really likes that part.

But what bothers me most about the book is that Boots learns to swim all in one day's lessons. I mean, of course it's condensed for effect in the book, but the reality, as any kid who's tried it knows, is that swimming is a lot harder than it looks and it takes a long time to swim independently at all, let alone to be good at it. Marianna may be a great teacher (being a mermaid and all), but I don't think they should have had Boots learn to swim completely. Maybe suggest that he would still need lots of practice. I can see kids getting rather bummed if they don't learn to swim all in one day.

But all-in-all a typical Dora adventure. If your child is into Dora, s/he'll like this one.

The book goes along with the main toy that I got my cousin so I thought this would be a great addition. I have not read the book, but I'm sure, if it's like all the other Dora books, it is great and teaches some Spanish!

This is a standard Dora story where they have to overcome a couple of obstacles to get to the goal. The swimming part is only a few pages at the end. Boots learns to swim with one lesson.

this dora book is a good one. very colorful, good story line and gets my daughter involved in the reading by counting or using her finger to guide through the maze.

This was added to my daughter's collection of Dora books and is one of her favorites! Especially since we are getting ready for swimming lessons!
