Chlorine tablets are one of the key chemicals to maintaining your pool water, and 3 inch chlorine tablets are the most popular among long-time pool owners. They are thicker than other pool chlorine tablets, allowing them to dissolve slower and protect your pool water for longer. They are also the ideal size for floaters, skimmers, or automatic feeders and are individually wrapped for your convenience. Tablets contain powerful 90% available stabilized chlorine, 99% Trichlor-S-Triazinetrione. Dosage: approximately 1-2 tabs per 10,000 gallons of water per week.

1. How big is the pool?
2. How often can I work on it?
3. How convenient is it to obtain the products I need?
4. What works best for my water?
In my area there are several pool stores. Lelies dominates and for the first couple years I went to them. I was shocking my pool weekly with power powder plus and performing all the other maintenance they told me to do. For the sake of this review I want to state that I have stopped using Leslies and went my own route. I also used Borax to create a buffer. I do not use algaecide at all. Baking soda for alk, muriatic acid to soften. Calcium is stable.
My first two years with a pool I wound up draining it twice as the water got so bad I couldn't bring it back. I tried everything Leslies told me and spent more time cleaning the pool than using it. Now however, I have found my balance. Once I filled the pool in April I got the water setup. Used the borax and buffered it. Balanced it out with the acid, adjusted the calcium, tested for phosphates. Once it was dialed in I started checking chlorine levels every few hours. I would shock on Sunday with Power Powder and by Tuesday the chlorine level was zero. I then went and bought tabs at Leslies. These tabs kept the chlorine level higher but it bounced between 1 and 5. Then I ordered this chlorine. I have used this since May and through the entire swimming season. My chlorine levels have been solid at 4 every day at any given time of day.
The bottom line is that there are many ways of doing this and for the most part every one of them will work. But perhaps they will not work in your water. These work perfectly in my water but may not work in someone elses water. So to summarize the four questions above my pool is 15,000 gallons and I can give one afternoon a week to work on the pool. Having this product delivered right to my door is much better for me than going to the pool store and this chlorine works fantastic with my water.
However, delivery was so fast, it was almost as-if I clicked on the Order, and FedEx Ground had delivered to my front door. If I am not mistaken, it was delivered the following day. Amazing.
I can't say enough good about both In-The-Swim & Amazon. Earlier this year, I ordered a new in-ground pool liner from In-The-Swim, and now that I've completed the installation, I can report that the liner is very high quality, looks great and fit our pool like a glove. Again, amazing. Very high level of quality control at In-The-Swim. Impressive packaging & delivery as well. Very fast for a custom-fit pool liner (1-week from click to delivery).
Regarding this 25-pound bucket of 3" chlorine tablets. Two other positive notes: (1) each 3" tablet is protected and individually wrapped in plastic (which protects the tablet from shipping deformation & presumably preserves each individual tablet better). Whatever their logic, the tables arrive in perfect condition and they work great to keep the water properly chlorinated., (2) The top has a very clever "un-locking mechanism" built-in to the bucket's lid. You just squeeze the red lever, and rotate the lid counter-clockwise, and you have instant (no hassle) access to your 3" tablets. Great idea, In-The-Swim.
Packaging of the 25-pound 3" tablet bucket was also very good. The bucket was protected by a heavy-duty cardboard box, and was clearly and correctly labeled to my correct address. Next day delivery? Third time, Amazing! Why would I buy somewhere else?
I could not be more pleased with Amazon's delivery of this excellent product by In-The-Swim. I paid seventy nine dollars & ninety nine cents. That is it. No other charges. Great deal. Great packing. Great shipping.
Only have to Shock after heavy usage (Pool Party, etc)..... no other chemicals required.
Yes, I'd recommend..
Reason being is that these tablets do a great job of stabilizing your chlorine levels and preventing the sun from burning up all your free chlorine. The down side is that they increase your Cyanuric acid levels which makes it harder to keep your chlorine level up. Over time the cyanuric acid builds up to a level where you have to over compensate with how much chlorine you add.
Another down side is that you can't decrease the Cyanuric acid with any other pool chemical. You can only remove it by actually removing water from the pool and then adding back fresh water.
Again I use these sparingly as they prevent algae build up when I know the pool will not be maintained for a few weeks. For regular maintenance I use liquid chlorine from the pool store or standard household bleach.
They also dissolve very quickly indicating a cheap product. Also, buyer beware- there are no returns, refunds or exchanges with In The Swim products.
