Fitting Your BlanketTo figure out what size solar cover you are looking for, measure the longest length and width of the pool to ensure you get complete coverage. Once you roll the cover out on top of the water, let it sit for about a day to adjust so it will lay completely flat. Once it has adjusted, cut the blanket to fit your pool if it is irregularly shaped. To make using a solar blanket cover even easier, use a solar cover blanket reel. This will help make the process of taking the cover on and off the pool more convenient. |
Extend the SeasonSolar blanket covers are a great way to help you enjoy your pool or spa even when the weather is a little cooler outside. It will help give you an extra month or two on either end of your normal swim season. This will allow you to open your pool earlier and close it later. Our solar blanket covers offer up to 80% in thermal efficiency which provides excellent heating and water retention. One of the best times to use the solar cover is at night to help keep the water from evaporating. It also keeps the temperature from dropping too low. |
Caring for Your CoverWhen using a solar blanket cover, you want take care and use it properly to help extend the life of your cover. If you add any chemicals to the water, wait at least 24 hours before you put the cover back on the pool. This prevents the cover from chemical damage that can shorten the life of your cover. It can result in the bubbles deteriorating when you put the cover back on too soon after treatment. When you are going to not use your solar cover blanket for a long period of time, make sure you clean it before storing. |

When I contacted In the Swim to get a full replacement under warranty, they responded with this email:
================================================
The warranty does not cover the following:
•Bubble Damage: This occurs when the bubbles on the solar cover start to fall off. The most common reasons for this is a chemical problem and often caused from the pool water not being properly balanced; putting Solar Cover on pool too soon after shocking or chemicals sitting on the cover while it is on a solar reel.
•Fading or color bleaching out.
•Tears, rips, cracks, or cuts
•Damages caused by exposing the solar cover to the sun while removed from the pool (improper storage).
•Damage caused by misuse, weather or animals.
The warranty only covers true seam separation and delamination. Please send in more photos, if you are experiencing either of these situations.

Look at all the complaints! These solar covers don't fail from " true seam separation and delamination". They fail from disintegration, which they blame on you because they claim this can only occur through misuse by not removing the cover when you shock the pool.

Second, it is a piece of bubble wrap and it will last about as long. You want something that lasts longer? Get a bunch of pool noodles and a very large tarp. then tie or weigh down the edges. Quit complaining that you have to buy these on a yearly basis because the Sun breaks down plastics (duh) or imbalanced ph (read: acid) breaks down your cover. You pay $70 a year to save hundreds on water bills.
And as for solar? What dunderhead thinks that a cover could possibly add more heat absorption to water than uh. . . water. If you really want this to warm things it would have to circulate the cold water at the bottom of your pool through the heating element. Just floating this on top of your pool will provide negligible heat.
Stop buying into marketing hype. One buys these covers to retain heat from a heat pump and to prevent water evaporation at night. It will save you a ton of money on either/both over the course of the year in a convenient easy to move package that you will definitely have to replace in a year. It will pay for itself within a month.
If you hate the quality/durability, by all means, rig something up with sheet platic/tarps and floaties. Just don't complain that it is heavy, unwieldy, and moldy. you make your choices.

To me it seems that have basically written the warranty to not include anything that could or is likely to happen to a pool cover with regular and proper use and care.
I maintain our pool daily and believe this cover simply cannot stand up to the Arizona sun.
It will help heat up the pool but be aware you will need to buy one every 1 to 2 seasons and your money may be better spent on a different brand.
