Ken Miller gives us a detailed insight into the numerous aspects of the education system based on his own school years, as well as the many years dedicated to working in the education system as teacher, principal, and superintendent. His tales of everyday involvement in student activities, whether teaching, guiding, or supervising, offer the viewpoint students rarely if ever see. Ken details the dedication, love, and devotion necessary to be not only a good teacher, but with the requisite insight, sympathy, empathy, emotional stability and understanding, provides students with the knowledge, wisdom and moral compass required to follow the path to a productive life. He also provides insight into the difficulties faced by management when coping with misguided students, budgets, school system regulations, and parental pressures.
Ken cites numerous pleasant and painful events experienced during time as a student and over 40 years as an educator. His own learning process helped establish a code of ethics that sustained his lifetime devotion to both teaching and aiding students in their advance to adulthood. This book is a must read for aspiring educators, as well as being a helpful guide for parents and young adults to understand what educators and education’s true goal is … development of solid citizens possessing a comprehensive education and strong moral ethics.
