Being a health care provider I have often recommended swimming as a form of rehab for back pain. Swimming is also a great exercise protocol for lower extremities. In addition swimming offers incredible cardiovascular benefits. Great book with a great set of exercises to choose from!

As the author notes, swimming is a great way "to exercise with a reduced level of impact on your body." It provides a way to get an overall workout without stressing your skeleton. This is an excellent book for beginners: it describes the various swimming strokes and provides some specific swimming workouts for beginners. Partly because it is not weight-bearing exercise, swimming is not the best exercise for losing body fat; however, if you do a lot of swimming it will burn calories for hours even after you get out of the pool. I recommend this book for those interested in beginning to use swimming as exercise.

My doctor said I need to start doing some daily exercise to get my heart strength back up since my heart attack last fall. The pool thing is perfect for me since we have one in the backyard and the weather is finally starting to warm up. I like the way you lay out several ways of doing your routines to mix things up.
