We purchased this swing set when our three year old was a newborn, nearly four years ago (Christmas present in 2007). His older brother (now 6) and he have enjoyed it, just as any kids would enjoy swinging, etc. It's been great to have it in our yard for them, and when their friends come to visit. However, I noticed as I am shopping for a new one, that all the positive reviews are from folks who haven't had it for any length of time. I thought longterm feedback might be helpful!

Assembly: It took three men about three days to build it, but that was not all day working (it was the holidays after all). They estimate that they could have accomplished it in one full 12 hour day with all the parts and tools pre organized with surgical precision. This group included a civil engineer, electrical engineer, and a building contractor who is a carpentry hobbyist. My husband also had to pretreat all the lumber, which took an additional full day to allow the two coats to dry. He forgot to treat the wooden ties on the rope wall off the back, and that all rotted, so don't skip this step! Lastly, when you purchase the beam for the swing arm, we upgraded to a 10 foot beam, and it really helped keep kids from bumping into each other when swinging.

Durability: This is where we are most disappointed. We chose this set because customer reviews were so positive, and because it offered the most options for kids within our budget. However, we have twice replaced the swings, and they are already due to be replaced again. The seats cracked on the first go-round, and the chains rusted anywhere they weren't coated, including at the seat where it's difficult to tell the condition, and dangerous. We have once replaced the disk swing.

I live in the Caribbean and a friend purchased this for my three year old son. It was well packaged with easy to follow instructions. Not complicated but it does help if you have basic carpentry skills. I was very impressed with the quality of the hardware and lumber- and should last for many years. Takes a little bit longer than stated to assembly but, once set it is very sturdy. I gave the swings a try and my 200lb wweight does not shake or move the structure. Ensure that the ground is level and it is advisable to use the smallest stone chips/gravel as a base before you construct. This ensure that rain water drains away and provides an everyday surface- no mud to worry about if it rains. I highly recommend this product and the company offers accessories to enhance the basic set.The only problem is getting my son off the set at the end of the day!
