It gets the job done with a maximum of quality and a minimum of frustration, which is what you really need from a laminator. It powers on quickly. It performs reliably. It can handle heavy stock paper in the pouch without flinching. It doesn't take up a lot of room. If you're using this in a production environment, such as laminating badges at a conference, it's going to be the thing that you don't have to call the one expert in the room for, the thing that gives you the least headaches, because it's easy to use and it works.
Three caveats if this is your first laminator, and this is true of all laminators. First, there will be an odd peice of cardboard in the box. Don't throw it out. You need to run it through the machine 2 or 3 times after every use in order to clean it. Gunking is a big problem with all laminators, and cleaning it this way will enhance the life and performance of your device. Second, get good pouches. GBC and Scotch both make good ones. Even the best laminator will do a crappy job with a poorly manufactured pouch. Third, take the finished item out immediately and let it lay flat to cool. Otherwise it'll cool crooked and look horrible.
It doesn't come with any pouches, so be sure to grab some 3 mil or 5 mil.
* Small footprint: 14¼ " W x 3½" (6½" with paper tray installed) D x 3" H
* Warm-up time (7 minutes specified, 5½ minutes measured). About the same as my 3M Laminator.
* Maximum Size: 9½" pouch width x whatever length sheet you can find.
* Speed: 78 sec. to laminate a standard 8½ x 11 sheet.
* Handles 3 mil laminating sheets (standard or legal size) or 5 mil photo (4 x 6")
* Works well and it's inexpensive.
* Quality of lamination is very good.
* Small size
* Not rated for thicker laminating sheets.
* Not as fast as a larger machine but perfectly acceptable for home use.
After un-boxing, the first thing that struck me was the size of this cool little laminator. It will fit in the corner of your desk and it is attractive. Setup was very fast. Just insert the feed tray, plug in and turn on the rear power switch. A green LED lights when it is warmed up and ready to go (about 7 min.).
First test was to laminate a standard 8½ x 11 sheet of paper using a recommended GBC 3 mil laminating pouch. It worked great, although the sheet curled slightly at one end after cooling. This is not a major issue.
Next test was the same, except I used a standard 3M laminating pouch (also 3 mil). The end result was the same as above but no curling was observed.
Final test was a side by side comparison with my 3M laminator, which costs 3 times the price of the GBC. I fed both sheets at the same time. The 3M had finished laminating the sheet by the time the GBC was half way done. When the GBC finished, I let both sheets cool then examined them.Read more ›
The bookmarks are about 2" wide and approximately 8-1/2" long. Length varies because there is a deckle edge on the top and bottom of each bookmark. Thickness also varies between card stock and cardboard thicknesses, and some of the embedded flora can be thick and uneven.
I put the bookmarks into the laminating pouch horizontally. Using letter sized pouches I was able to easily get four bookmarks in each one with plenty of space between. I had no problem feeding the pouch through the laminator, and it went through evenly and consistently. After laminating, I used a paper cutter to cut the bookmarks leaving about 1/8" extending past the edges of the bookmark. Because each bookmark's thickness is so uneven I did a second pass through the laminator for each bookmark individually. I actually put three through at a time, feeding each one individually and the laminator easily did the job.
They look lovely, and the process is quick and easy. This little laminator does a fine job, is easy to use, and pretty versatile given that the paper I'm using is so varied.
I have tried 2 of these laminators GBC HeatSeal Inspire 9 Inch Laminator, Black (1701855), and have liked them much better than the Scotch Thermal Laminator 2 Roller System (TL901) that I also bought on a GB special.
The Scotch doesn't heat as well, and I ended up running items through at least twice. I have tried several brands of 3mm sheets, including the Sam's Club sheets, the 3 Mil Clear Letter Size Thermal Laminating Pouches 9 X 11.5 Qty 100 (UNV84622), GBC HeatSeal UltraClear Thermal Laminating Pouches, Letter, 3.0 Mil, 100/Pack (3745022) and Scotch Thermal Pouches 8.9 x 11.4 Inches, 100-Pack (TP3854-100) brand sheets...similar results with all of them. One time (or at most 2 times) through with GBC HeatSeal Inspire 9 Inch Laminator, Black (1701855), twice (at very very least) with Scotch.
I am sticking with the GBC brand for the school & household laminating I need to do... the GB price was really similar and the quality seems better to me based on my experience.

I finally used this laminator. It got REAL hot and ate the third laminating pouch. It's toast! I waited more than 90 days to use it so I can't even return it. Read morePublished 26 days ago by Loretta
