I did a lot of reviewing, reading all comments. Didn't want to pay ridiculous money for a shredder that craps out within a year. Read about some of the 400, 600 and up shredders, thinking they likely won't crap out, but who knows? Then when you look at this one, that it will cross-cut, and take a stack of 100, and with the majority of comments being very good, you have to just lean toward - there's bound to be a few comments that say negatives only, and then there's the majority that say positives. If you're going to spend this kind of money just to shred paper, it makes sense to go with this unit and the majority of raters who've had good luck with it.
Mine came, and hasn't missed a beat yet. I've run several hundred loose sheets in hand feed, several stacks of 100+/- sheets too, hasn't missed a beat on them either. Couldn't give you a negative on this machine as it's been all positive for me. Glad I bought it. Haven't had it a year yet, about 6 months, but every time I stick a stack in it or run loose stuff into the hand feed, it gobbles it up. Never even had the over-heat condition happen.

Nice convenient size. I was unable to use right out of the package though. UPS dropped the box from about shoulder height onto the porch. A bit more absorbent material inside the box might have also helped. Received the replacement and not overly pleased. I tried shredding CC's - jammed on all 3 cards. Trying to unfolding paper for auto shed wasn't good. Used manual feed more often than not. Shed bin very small. City decided not to accept plastic bags - needed to buy paper bags. Happier with old shredder that is just about dead. If there is a next time, I'll do more research before getting an over-priced one of these.

This is a six (6) sheet fed shredder that has an automatic feeding feature that holds up to one-hundred sheets. The 'cons' come in with the quality and grade of the paper. It often stops working automatically when thicker and/or more rigid paper is next to be pulled. The rollers just will not grip well enough to pull it through, and so one ends up feeding the papers through the slot. The slot has a curved covering plate which makes feeding paper a strict maneuver. Noise quality is low, the shredded paper is considered a level three secured cut, which seems to be about an inch and a quarter in length. The shredder is good and when you have a lot of the thinner and more flexible papers to shred, this Swingline product is a pleasure. When you are trying to get through a lot of papers in a short time and have the more rigid and high grade quality paper, the overheating factor will slow you down and you will have to feed the slot. Should I need to buy another shredder I would just go with the higher sheet count feeders. The drawer type basket is convenient, until you need to empty it. It is convenient because one could set the shredder under a table and pull the drawer to empty or replace a catch bag. The drawer seem to fill fast, although I must admit I bought this shredder because I have loads of documents that need to be securely disposed. Should someone simply need it for low to moderate levels of documents, it would be fine. Would I recommend this product, yes. It does what it claims, basically.

Overall, I really like this shredder and it is fun to use compared to manual-feed-only shredders. However, despite using the "trick" many are talking about (folding the stack in half before loading into the automatic feeding compartment, so the paper dips down slightly towards the rollers in the center), I have yet to have a stack that doesn't jam when it gets down to the last 5-6 pages. But all I usually have to do is pull the half-chewed remaining stack out, close the lid, press the forward button for a few seconds to clear the jam, and then feed the remaining 5-6 pages through the manual feeder. Not to bad overall considering it gets through about 95% of a large stack without issue.

This shredder is the best I have had! I put a stack of paper in the tray, close the top, and it just quietly shreds away while I tend to more important tasks. The only con that I can think of is that it does not deal with thicker paper well. Anything thicker, such as letterheads, need to be fed from the outside slot manually. That doesn't happen often, though, since most of the time I'm shredding regular paper.

This machine is used on the daily basis and have not given me any trouble.

Tips: no need to buy those paper bags. I use regular trash bag and it works great.

works ok...does a good job but you have to be carefull how you load the sheets in the basket so that they are even...as a single sheet shredder it does not work as well as the average 8-12 page manual feed shredders...if you buy this with the intention of shredding large amounts of papers that go in the basket, it works very well...as a shredder were you feed a few sheets manually, it does not work a good as many manual loading shredders for the most part

read many reviews on this before buying and thought what the heck, lets give it a try. as with any shredder as long as you do not over load it or stick too many sheets of stapled papers in it all at once its great. i had huge amounts of old old old paperwork to shred and could not have done it without this shredder. thick paper, card stock, or envelopes work better feed through manually and remove paperclips. . . . but this was well worth the money, i love putting a stack of paper in there and walking away - sitting there feeding paper into any other shredder drives me nuts, this way i can mutli task. i think it is a win win!!! Thank you swingline!

Great product for a junk mail hoarder! It is quiet and easy to use. Handles the load with ease. Just be sure to look at the enclosures of the junk mail before shredding. My Quick Tip: In case if you've decided not to contribute to the charities that enclose coins in their mailings,be sure to remove them prior to shredding. Otherwise, with the click of the "on" switch, those few coins plus a few dollars will be used to buy you a new shredder!

I decided to purchase this because I sort mail into shred and trash and lay everything flat. I put a stack of shred in the hands free area for the first time and this 'no clog' shredder was immediately stuck. It took me about 30 minutes to clear the issue and start hand feeding everything again. If your main reason for purchasing this is to use the hands free, good luck! Make sure all the paper is 8X11 and is laid perfectly flat. Doesn't seem ideal for mail.

I had a huge amount of paperwork that was sitting in boxes that needed shredded. This thing came through like a champ!! You just make sure all the staples are out of the paperwork and put it in and walk away. It allowed me to do other things while this was working. The only opportunity is to have a bigger can so you don't have to empty it after each stack. Would be nice if it could mount to the top of a trashcan.
