Belts are expensive and are shot after 8 cuts of 1 acre.
Try changing a belt on this thing...you will need a few hours and lots of tools and bandaides, also suggest a hoist or comfy rug as your going to be there on the ground for awhile.
No manual came I made my own on line could not get one for the B&S 27HP so I have to internet search for filters and maintenance items.
Front wheels way to small and dig in on soggy lawn cutting days.
Throttle cable would not stay and they sent me 2 more which were bad so now I cut with a bungy cord to keep it going.
Rusting really bad all over.
No joke 75% of the bolts were finger tight and falling out.
Try finding a service area and call them...most I had never heard of swisher or quit them many years ago.
The service place we finally found was 8 week wait.
Nearly impossible to talk to the factory but they did hook me up after repeated calls and faxes to a retired guy who really got me at least running. Tries to send it back but it was so much hassle I kept it thinking it would get better.
Really hard to get it to go straight they want you to disassemble portions and start adjusting.
It is now adjusted but way slow.
Center blade pulley is uncovered so it packs with grass and each cut will take you 15 minutes to clean it.
Tires were flat on the crate and had to be replaced.
No cushion for the rider other than 2 small springs at rear of seat and the front small wheels this will beat you up.
I gave it 2 stars because it starts and cuts grass.
My hydrostat belt lasted about 58 hours (a little over 2 seasons of mowing for me), and the other 2 belts were damaged last year when a large clump of loose sod jammed a blade. I do my own maintenance on mowers and this mower seems no harder than any of the others I've done, but the hydrostat belt is a pain to change while the other 2 are very easy. My hydrostat transmissions began making noise about 80 hours or 3.5 seasons into mowing, but after doing much research on the eaton units in this machine (these are uprated eaton hydrostat transmissions, but not professional grade as swisher would lead you to believe), I changed the fluid out w/ Mobil 1 20W-50 motorcycle oil, and the noises have stopped. (This oil was chosen after many hours of research, consultation w/ mower shops, etc, as eaton doesn't exactly sell the fluid. they give some vague specs for it, but no actual fluid. Also, changing the fluid is no small task, very fiddley and messy. Finally, this fluid would not be recommended for mowing in cold climates, too viscous, but above 50 deg F or so, should be fine.) The fluid was very discolored and dirty, and I do not believe that it is a lifetime fluid. The folks who have lost transmissions probably had them fail due to the fluid wearing out.
You will have to spend a lot more money on a mower to get a superior machine, and will need to go to a full pro unit to see major improvements over the specs and amount of steel in the swisher. In doing my research, I would have needed to spend a minimu of 1-2k more to get a better machine (I bought mine locally for 3k, so shop around). This is not a pro machine, however, more of a prosumer class. At current prices, make sure you check all of your options out fully.
