The first thing that would make this backpack perfect is by placing a zipper on the front small pocket. But I did something ingenious to fix that! I placed 3M Velcro Tape on the inside of the small front pocket, and it seals perfectly and is so easy to open. Without it, I was afraid of it becoming a mini parachute-like thing at high speeds. The velcro seals it perfectly (see pics).
The second thing that would make it perfect is a chest strap. But the shoulders straps are tight, so it's all good.
The quality is lower than I would gave expected. The fabric is fairly lightweight and the "reflective piping" is very minimal. Plus, it's a bit smaller than I expected.
The bag is a very vivid neon yellow...the pictures do not do it justice. To increase nighttime visibility, I added some reflective runner's bracelets and a red strobe light I bought locally for about $15 total. I reconmend these additions if you're using this backpack for visibility purposes at night.
Overall, I'd say it's not bad. I like the color, the relative lack of reflective tape can be easily overcome. It's adequately sized for my daily commutes. Time will tell how well it will hold up. If a student was lugging around thirty pounds of Geometry textbooks, I think it might fail within a year.
I think this is a decent choice for people who walk or ride bicycles, motorcycles, or scooters to work. It's not the most stylish bag out there, but at least I know people see me when they point and laugh. Getting hit by a car is no fun....I speak from experience.
Cons: The only thing I'd change about it is that front pocket with no zipper. Because the pocket behind it is too large and has a lot of compartments, I tend to just put my small and important items (like my phone and keys) in that unzippered compartment. I wish that small compartment on the front had a zipper, because there's really no good place to easily access small items.
There are two negatives I have with it: For me at least, the shoulder straps can sometimes rub in the under arm areas, which is irritating, but unlikely to be a universal problem. Also, it would be nice if the small pocket at the very front was a zipper instead of small Velcro closure. As things can easily fall out of it, I can't really use it, and it would be nice to have a small pocket for keys, my wallet, etc as they tend to get lost in the larger pockets.
The pictures are a little deceiving color wise. The picture looks almost lime green, but this is definitely the neon green listed in the title. He's carrying a 13" laptop and it fits with space to spare. It's held up great so far with no tears or rips anywhere. It also has water bottle holders on the sides and additional pockets inside.
We are very happy with this backpack.
