10-piece meat fondue set consists of enameled cast iron pot and splatter ring, 6 forks, black enameled fondue pot rechaud (stand), paste/gel fuel burner.
Originally an outdoor lunch for French grape harvesters in the Middle Ages, classic beef fondue has evolved into a sophisticated anthology of recipes that includes not only beef but chicken, seafood, and pork prepared in any number of creative ways. Swissmar's Lucerne 10-piece meat fondue set specializes in heating oil or broth to an even, consistent temperature for perfect dipping every time. Crafted of enameled cast iron, the generous round pot is ideal for heat distribution and retention and, with no hard corners, allows diners to swirl meat anywhere on the inside. Cast iron is also a premier choice for meat cooking, as it works well at both low and high temperatures to give chefs maximum control and delicious results. The matching iron rechaud stands on three sturdy legs angled to maximize the space between them so it's easy to access the alcohol/gel fuel burner on the base below.
When the liquid inside is bubbling nicely, it's time to dig in. For safe, cool handling, there are two contoured handles as well as a removable splatter guard that fits snugly on the pot with slots for the six forks. Diners choose a color on the tip of each fork so it's easy to identify even when there's much dipping and stirring (not to mention talking and laughing!). For multipurpose usage, simply remove the splatter guard and lower the heat to melt cheese, or use the pot as a warmer for appetizers, buffet items, chili, or soup. Available in an array of bright colors including red, blue, and yellow, this fondue set has a cheerful presence that suits its inviting, communal purpose. Easy recipes are included to get the party started. --Kara Karll

As for shipping, the item arrived very poorly packaged. The product box (inside the shipping box) was not wrapped, although it needed to be wrapped. Either a smaller shipping box should have been used OR more protective packaging should have been used. Since there was an insufficient amount of packaging material to protect the product box, during transport the product box was able to migrate around inside the shipping box. As a result, the product box was in shambles upon delivery. Pieces of the product box and pieces of the set were strewn throughout the shipping box. I am returning the set and had to tape-up the product box just to be able to return it so that the set wouldn't be damaged further during the return trip Heavier/bulkier items such as this one really need to be bubble wrapped and taped. It appeared that the item I ordered was just thrown in a random box and that a row/string of AIRplus transport bags were then shoved into the shipping box to partially just fill-in the space.
(Over time I have noticed that items shipped by or fulfilled by Amazon are increasingly having issues with improper wrapping. I suspect that the assembly line for pre-shipping packing is now so automated that items just get dumped in random boxes and then some AIRplus transport bags are just shoved in to partially fill the space in-between. This has happened several times, so I will no longer be purchasing items from Amazon that are: large, bulky, or heavy.)
There aren't really any negatives to the product per-se. The price is steep, but that is the going cost for fondue sets. It's rather heavy, even the lid, but that helps keep it stable while stirring. All-in-all, I'd get a Swissmar Lucerne Fondue Set again if something were to happen to this one. We've owned it for more than 10 years though, and it's still almost like new.
