I've had this case for a couple months now, and it's exceeded my expectations:
* It's slimmer than I thought--it doesn't *seem* like it adds any bulk to the phone.
* Style-wise it meets my low-key utilitarian preferences. I like the seams on the back separating the main body from the rounded camera area at the top of the phone and the corresponding area at the bottom.
* The texture is nice, with just enough added friction.
I've only had one minor drop of the phone with this case, so I can't yet say a lot about the level of protection. The case is slightly raised in elevation around the screen, which is a must. The material is harder than my previous, more bulky & rubbery case, which
I'm concerned may mean less give if the phone is dropped, but it's been fine so far.
I believe this is a slightly older version of the Tones, as it has plugs to cover the ports on the bottom, but they aren't attached to the phone. As is, I don't use the plugs, though I'm glad they're there in case I decide to use them.
Assuming no incidents with the phone while using this case, I would probably buy another of these for replacement if the case itself wore out--it only set me back about $16USD, which is a pittance to protect a $500+ device.
But, I gave it another shot. It does have a certain monochrome style that is attractive, and the case does feel good in your hand. The protection goes ALL the way around the edge of the phone, which is a nice thing that most other cases don't do. The button functionality also works surprisingly well. The camera lens cutout is also a good design, as it is small enough so that you don't see the brushed aluminum/ glossy black division underneath. The case doesn't add much bulk to the phone, but still offers nice protection. While I am still looking around for the "perfect case" I think I'll hold on to this one. Ahh... but if only this case was really black. It would have been nice if Switcheasy made a "Tones" case that preserved the "black monolith" aesthetic of the iphone.
Now, onto why I think that the one I ordered off of Amazon from a seller called "whole goods" might be fake. For one, the actual case packaging seemed a bit abused, but everything inside was just fine. I noticed that the case has a number of mold clippings (don't know the right term), and you can see where some of the TPU material was detached from the rest of its mold (that might be a better explanation?). Unless SwitchEasy made changes to this case within the last year when I first started using the case that I received directly from them, the volume buttons seem easier to press on this "fake" model (which I like), and there seems to be a little bit more of a "lay-on-the-table" design. The SwitchEasy logo on the right side of the case isn't as deep as the one on the real case. There's also just a tad bit of vertical movement of the iPhone while it's in the case, but unless you actually push on the top of bottom of your phone to force it to move, most probably won't notice.
In other words, the overall quality of this "fake" one is good, but there are just some refinement issues.
The Tones is still a fantastic case for those who want something simple that will protect your device while still looking good and offering a good featureset for a case.

*** HAVE REDUCED FROM FIVE STARS TO ONE ***
Sadly the quality of this case started not well and seems to be getting worse. Poor as this is not a "cheap" case.
It is a shame as this case looks really great as a very low profile, decent protection case and the materials are good. That's why I tried three! However there is clearly a problem with the bonding that holds the rubber areas to the plastic areas.
First case... lasted about 8 months before rubber parts broke free of the plastic. The bonding holding the two together fails.
Second case... lasted only 2 months before the same failure happened.
Third case... yes you guessed it. Same failure after only three weeks.
Also I noticed that they have now made the hole for the lighning port access smaller so my 32 pin to lightning converter lead (genuine Apple) no longe fits.
So this is an expensive case with a fundamental fault in my opinion! I won't be buying a fourth!
IF the manufacturer solves the rubber to plastic bonding problem and IF they make the lightening port hole bigger then this would be an outstanding case. As it is, it's expensive junk.
FYI I have now bought an OtterBox Commuter Series Two-Layer Protection Case Cover with Screen Protector for iPhone 5/5S - Black. £14.87 with free delivery. It is slightly bulkier but is of outstandng build quality. It has a better design that involves a seperate inner rubber layer and outer plastic layer so no bonding to fail. I highly recommend the OtterBox Commuter Series.

From a 'protecting the phone' point of view, full marks. I haven't had any issues with it and have managed to drop my phone a few times at inopportune moments.
My biggest gripe with the case (and I'm partly to blame as I chose the case and had seen a picture of it) is that it takes a gorgeously designed product like the iPhone 5, and wraps it in a bland, boring and uninspiring case.
Some colour or frankly anything would be welcome to spice up the look of this case. I thought before buying it that it would match the two-tone iPhone 5 design, but it's more like the unfortunate-looking sister to the iPhone 5.
I still use the case when I am travelling but I am looking for a replacement that makes me feel like I'm holding a vibrant and exciting device, not a remote control from the 90s, whilst affording the same level of protection.
If SwitchEasy has this same case with a different and more appealing design, I'd be likely to buy it.
Now for the bad. This case gets grubby really quick. My wife puts it in her bag and within a week the pink was dull. It picks up colour transfer off jeans almost instantly. After two weeks the black has all but come off from around the camera cut out.
The case comes with some plugs to put in the headphones and lightning holes, which I thought was a good idea, right up to the point you need to take them out, which is almost impossible.
I can't comment on the screen protector as she is using a SGP one which is amazing.
I have complained to SwitchEasy but they have chosen to ignore me. I plan to complain to Amazon and try for a refund.
If you really want this case I would go for a dark colour at least. On the other hand choose any CaseMate case, they have always lasted well, even the pink ones.
Since it has two parts, a light colored softer part and a dark colored hard, the case broke in the joint between both parts.
Another negative point are the plugs to cover the lightning and mini-jack ports. Unlike other cases by switcheasy, when, there is a cover for these ports it is attached to the case, I was always fearful of losing them when I put my iPhone to charge or plugging my headphones.
Anyway, it's really a disappointment that the flimsy shell broke in less than 1 year of use.
Of course as a marketplace product I can only return in less than 30 days, and I'm now looking for other options, perhaps not buying a switcheasy case again.
First impressions:
Together with a white iPhone 5, this case looks fantastic.
It's a light grey/white, two tone plastic affair. The finish is matt, and slightly textured, presumably to aid grippage.
The fit is perfect - not too difficult to get the phone into the housing, and also not at all tricky to remove.
The top is enclosed, with a raised button overlying the on/off switch (no holes to let dirt/grime in)
The left side has a rectangular hole, (large enough for a fairly fat finger to utilise) to allow the mute selector switch to be accessed.
The volume controls below this have small raised buttons. These depress easily - although they may feel somewhat imprecise to some.
The bottom of the case has the required holes for the 3.5mm headphone jack and the new style charger. There are also 24 perforations that correspond with the speaker outlet holes. They line up accurately and precisely.
The right of the case is solid plastic.
The case came with an adhesive screen protector and soft cleaning cloth.
I would highly recommend this case. It is smart, functional and durable. I have had 3 previous cases (for my iPhone 4), and this case beats all of them hands down.
