Contemporary Christian music artists Switchfoot play a vigorous concert for an enthusiastic hometown audience on Live in San Diego. While eschewing overt references to faith in Christ, songwriter and frontman Jonathan Foreman repeatedly exhorts fans to take control of their lives and become more serious people. Ironically, Switchfoot could embrace that same advice when it comes to their music, which is too safe (same tempo, same vocal on everything) and diffuse to make the impact the band could make if it tried. The potential is there, in "This Is Your Life"'s jangly, orchestral feel, in the Replacements-like wit and woosh of "Gone," the dense, deliberative pop of "Learning to Breathe," and the unapologetic rock of "Meant to Live." --Tom Keogh

This concert is nearly 3 hours long which should satisfy any Metallica fan. I would have preferred that they release the Seattle concert! It's not quite as long but it's all from 'Justice...' and before, but I'm sure the 18 million people that bought the black CD will prefer this. Professionally done and the sound is not bad stereo for 1992. Again, I hope they'll release the 1989 Seattle concert on DVD, that way people won't have to purchase the expensive 'Binge and Purge' to get these concerts on DVD.

I really enjoyed Switchfoot's CD "The Beautiful Letdown". It is ground breaking album for this up and coming band. Unfortunately, this DVD does not do the best job of representing the band's efforts. As others have noted the sound quality is not great, and the video footage does not capture much of the band's energy. Simply put - it is somewhat boring to watch.

On the positive side, the song list from the concert does include all the best songs from "The Beautiful Letdown". But, I was disappointed that there was not more extra material beyond the concert. There are a few short interviews, and a video, but nothing more. Therefore, I recommend that listeners stick with the CD, it is much better than this DVD.

I've heard people say that these totally rock live and it is very true. I got this for christmas and its awesome. I especially loved "Ammunition" when Tim (bassist) makes that huge jump off of Chad's drum set and when Jon (frontman) jumped into the crowd. Everyone was going crazy! i was a little suprised they didn't play Redemption, but then again, Learning to Breathe (the song that took Redemption's place) is a better song anyway. if you are a fan of SWITCHFOOT get this dvd. you'll love it.

Switchfoot Live in San Diego. That explains it. This dvd brings you to the concert live as if you are there Rock'n along with the guys from switchfoot. Switchfoot is currently climbing the charts and is one of the hottest "up and coming" bands out there. After years of passion driven meaningful music, switchfoot finally is getting the attention they deserve, with their fourth album release in the Beautiful Letdown. The DVD Live in San Diego is filled with over an hour of live concert footage as well as extras such as interviews and behind the scenes footage. To truely see the heart of switchfoot's music, Live in San Diego is a great way to see there energy on stage and their interaction with their fans. 5 Stars, and lookout for switchfoot to continue to shatter the charts and change this world every step of the way.

I have this DVD and I have seen Switchfoot live twice this year, once in a small setting and once in a stadium setting. I think the justified enthusiasm from the album The Beautiful Letdown has spilled over to this DVD, which is lacking in production quality and technical ability.

In concert they can kind of make up for shortcoming this by 'turning the volume up to eleven', but when I can control the volume at home, I find that they are a bit unpolished live.

I really don't think they are on par with, say, U2, in a live setting. People here are rating the album (5 stars) when they are reviewing the dvd (3 stars).

Switchfoot is a great band. Their music is powerful and deep and they put on a great live show. The setlist for this concert dvd is a great selection of their strongest songs of the time of this show. If you like great music, give this a go.

This is such an awesome DVD! Even though not all the songs of the tour were included (the DVD didn't have Redemption, my favorite song) it really rocked. The sound quality isn't as good as their normal cd (hey, its live, what do you expect!). But beside all this, the DVD is awesome, one of the best I own! Very glad I bought it, no regrets!!!!! All my friends love it too. If your a Switchfoot fan it is a must have!!!!1
