I just wanted a timer to shut outside lights on and off when we are away and it's perfect for that. Have it set for sunset and sunrise and works flawlessly so far.

First off, the installation was very fast. Just popped the batteries in and connected to my phone, but then the problems start. The fact that it's Bluetooth makes it so that it doesn't have good range anywhere, you pretty much have to be in the same room to use it. And the app is slow, as in it takes about 3-5 seconds for the switch to toggle after each press. Oh, and it's not Alexa compatible, which I thought it was, but that's my fault not reading close enough. But hey, it does what it says it does, just not in the highest quality. Overall, instead of a smart home device I would describe this as a novelty item.

Claimed to work with Alexa/Dot, but when you try to make it work, you find out that feature is still in development. Works on the switchmate app just fine, but I bought it for the Alexa functionality. Honestly, it would get five stars if not for the lies. The snap on design is really cool. But never forget the lies and deceit.

This item is misleading. I bought it because it was supposed to be Alexa compatible. It is not. You cannot operate it remotely. You must be in range with your phone. It does work but it is very loud. It's too large to put two side by side.

This was easy to set up but that's about all it's good at so far. I've only had it up and running for maybe 4 hours and have tried to use the app to turn in the light 5 or 6 times and it just locks up. I bought it to work with my wink system but didn't realize you need the wink hub 2nd generation. Not impressed at all. Ooh and it's just huge

I really loved the concept of this, and used it for some time (until the batteries died, I think). But there are a LOT of glaring flaws that should be expected of such devices. One, the device de-syncs randomly, and setting it up requires going back to the switch and pushing it while re-syncing it with all your devices all over; a little annoying, but did not happen too often. The bigger issue was the range, despite the range itself being pretty decent, the device takes too long to detect you being in range, requiring you to wait for upwards to half a minute or longer for it to "detect" you're close enough to turn the lights on or off. If not force you to close and open the app again and again. I got this light to turn my porch lights on and off so when I got home late I could pull up, turn them on, and by the time I got to the door, I could see. Well, the auto-turn on feature never worked, and 95% of the time I got to my door, got my door unlocked, and got inside before the phone even detected the light switch, despite being like 20 ft away. After that failed, I ended up using it for my bedroom, so I could be lazy and turn my lights on and off without getting out of bed. It worked wonderfully, until the battery started to die ( I think ) and the light switch started randomly turning off or on all on its own.
Its a nice thought, but not worth the trouble or time in my honest opinion. A for effort though!

it does not always work properly and beyond certain distance it does not work. honestly this is a great idea but the reality is the technology is not mature yet.

The Switchmate works perfectly, but the Amazon listing should have clarified that it doesn't communicate by wi-fi, only by blue tooth. That greatly restricts its' usefulness.
