The different sections in this book speak for themselves... Jung's own chapter introduces the reader to the unconscious, to the archetypes and symbols that form its language and to the dreams by which it communicates. Dr. Henderson in the following chapter illustrates the appearance of several archetypal patterns in ancient mythology, folk legend, and primitive ritual. Dr. von Franz, in the chapter entitled "The Process of Individuation," describes the process by which the conscious and the unconscious within the individual learn to know, respect, and accommodate one another. In a certain sense this chapter contains not only the crux of the whole book, but perhaps the essence of Jung's philosophy of life: Man becomes whole, integrated, calm, fertile, and happy when (and only when) the process of individuation is complete, when the conscious and the unconscious have learned to live in peace and to compliment one another. Mrs. Jaffe, like Dr. Henderson, is concerned with demonstrating, in the familiar fabric of the conscious, man's recurring interest in - almost obsession with - the symbols of the unconscious. They have for him a profoundly significant, almost a nourishing and sustaining, inner attraction - whether they occur in the myths and fairy tales that Dr. Henderson analyzes or in the visual arts, which, as Mrs, Jaffe shows, satisfy and delight us by a constant appeal to the unconscious.

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheap, small-format book. It has about 1/10 the number of illustrations and those are all b&w and horrible. Spend the money and get the large format hardback. The chapter on modern art is suburb, and I recommend it for those studying art or art history.

I bought this book as a gift for my sister. We both studied psychology and recognize Jung (and his students) as a prominent and important mind in the field. I loved this version of the classic Man and his Symbols because it is full of colorful illustrations and symbols to go along with the text. It is both visually interesting and intellectually stimulating. Perfect as either a great coffee table book or as a primary psychology or spirituality study tool. If you or someone you know is interested in Jung philosophy, this is a great gift.

Hier haben wir ein Musterbeispiel dafür, das es nicht reicht, bei einem Produkt nur den Inhalt zu bewerten und das dazugehörige Medium zu ignorieren. Wenn ich hier nur den Inhalt bewerten sollte, hätte ich 5 Sterne vergeben müssen. Eine Kaufempfehlung kann man bei diesem Produkt aber auf keinen Fall aussprechen, handelt es sich doch um eine Kopie. Und Kopie ist hier wörtlich gemeint - im Sinne von Fotokopie!

Das Buch besteht komplett aus in Schwarz-Weiß fotokopierten Seiten des Originals! Und das wurde sehr dilettantisch gemacht. Viele kopierte Buchseiten haben einen Grauschleier, da die Originalseiten nicht einmal flach auf dem Kopierer gelegt wurden und an den Rändern noch die hinteren Seiten als schwarze Schatten zu sehen sind. Staub und Fasern haben sich zudem als dunkle Flecken auf vielen Seiten verewigt und auf Bildern sind kaum Details zu sehen, da sie in schwarzen Flächen absaufen. Das sieht so aus, wie wenn jemand in einer Bücherei an einem öffentlichen Kopierer mal schnell ein geliehenes Buch abkopiert hat und das ganze nun im Eigenvertrieb weiterverkauft. Auf der letzten Seite ist dann auch zu lesen "printed by BoD in Norderstedt", sprich es wurde von Books on Demand ausgedruckt.

Leider war das alles (vor meiner Rezension) überhaupt nicht ersichtlich, ganz im Gegenteil haben die von Amazon weiter unten angezeigten US-Rezensionen zu diese Werk ausschließlich positive Bewertungen angezeigt. Tatsächlich hat hier Amazon aber alle Rezensionen vermischt, denn die zu diesem Produkt angezeigten 5-Sterne-Wertungen bezogen sich gar nicht auf diese Edition, sondern auf die Original-Ausgabe. Die kopierte Ausgabe trägt die ISBN 9788087888698.

Not reviwing the book content, but the way it was printed.
It's substantially a print of scanned pages of a previous edition.
The book cover is nice, but the reading experience suffers from the bad xeroxing.
Furthermore, worse than xeroxing, is the wrong disposition of pages: there are comments mentioning "images on the left", probably because in tge the original work they were on the left. In this edition they are actually in the previous page. Same for images on the next page mentioned as "on the right".
A bit more careful work would have resulted into a more pleasant reading.

Luckily the content of the books is extremely interesting and overcomes those glitches.
