Top Customer Reviews
- 4G network, micro SD, Free offline Map and Navigation.
- Screen is bright even when using outdoor.
- Wifi calling
- Calling quality is not very good
- Limited APP (No Dropbox ....)
Let's start with the good: It's cheap, it's a smart phone, it has an app store and browser, and navigation, and realistically everything you need for a practical day to day device...with a few compromises, for a very low cost. Also it's ludicrously durable. I've put mine through hell and I have no idea how it's survived... the glass scratches pretty easily, but somehow refuses to break, crack, splinter, or chip no matter how many times it gets dropped face first onto concrete, or thrown into walls, without any sort of screen protector or case. Also its wifi card is pretty good and it's wifi call quality and overall wifi calling experience is exceptional compared to my samsungs. Saves me a lot of minutes. The Cortana assistant app is very good, the voice recognition is solid. Also the livetiles layout of windows mobile is pretty intuitive, I actually enjoy it.
The bad: It's slow. Brutally slow. Frustratingly slow(one of the reasons I've put it's durability to the test so many times). Due to the weak specs, you also have certain apps that won't be available for it simply because it's not powerful enough to handle them. And the apps that are out, many of them will take a while to load, which is something you're not used to coming from phones not built to an absolute price point. Also it's windows phone, which has pretty poor apps market offerings to begin with. The screen contrast and brightness are pretty weak, and difficult to see in sunlight. The camera is attrocious. The default browser is internet explorer, and it has pretty poor compatibility with most websites and will glitch and crash on certain websites, which is annoying as there aren't any good alternatives. I tried one that was a little better I think it was UC browser, but it forced a lock screen and you had to unlock it every time you opened the browser. Absolute idiocy.
Overall it works, it does its job, it's functional but with heavy compromises that come with a sub $50 phone. As a temporary replacement for someone who is strapped and uncomfortable with the prospect of meeting a craigslist stranger in a parking lot to pay $100 for a probably stolen galaxy s4 that he "got from his cousin cause he owed him money for dru-RENT, yeah rent." it's definitely something to consider.
...As a permanent replacement for someone who has previously owned a flagship phone: absolutely not, don't kid yourself, spotify takes 27 seconds to load every time you start it or tab over to it from another app and lets be honest you don't have that kind of time.
Nokia MixRadio is better than iTunes Radio which the last I knew required a work around to use on the iPhone. MixRadio even allows you to download your mixes to play off-line during those rare time you aren't near a Wi-Fi connection or connected via 4G/LTE.
The 635 only has 8GB of memory but allows you to add up to a 128 GB MicroSD card - I added a 64GB one from Amazon and now have 72GB on my phone (my iPhone only had 32 MB and I was forever figuring out what I could delete so I could add a new album that I wanted to download). Speaking of SD cards you can't replace the battery in the iPhone - the 635 easily allows you to take the back off of it and replace the battery, install or swap out SD cards. Also the rear cover which is white can be swapped out for different colored covers - I just ordered an orange one (yellow and green are the two other color choices).
Cantana (Microsoft's competitor to Siri) is better than Siri too and actually has helpful features that Siri doesn't have - she is proactive and offers up info before you ask (news headlines for instance) once you set her up.
Also swiping typing works great (the official name for this is word flow). I could go on but you get the general idea. I love this phone.
