About T.W. Colvin
I was born a southern girl, raised in Michigan and now call the south home again. Here in the peaceful rural Alabama, I am a supermom & army wife, V.P. of finance for my home, a puppy wrangler and full time supervisor in the Healthcare industry. And somewhere in all of that I find a few minutes to myself to write, which is something that I absolutely love to do. I have even gone as far as piecing together stories and inspirational writings from text messages and social media posts (don't judge me! LOL). Despite wearing several hats I am more focused than ever on my passion for writing.

Blog postOver the past week my husband has been diligently breaking down my old office furniture and assembling the new. And while I was very excited about getting new furniture, and rearranging things, it meant a lot of work. We had to pull out files, papers and everything that had found its way into nooks and crannies that rendered them out of sight and mind.Read more »6 years ago Read more

Blog postIt's that time of year when we are still labeling everything as "firsts" and I am already exhausted. I recently realized that despite my efforts to change my "day job" I was really going through the motions. I mean I have submitted resume after resume and even though I was disappointed that nothing seemed to happen, deep down I think I'm OK with it.
To be honest, I don't want to leave my "day job" to go to another "day job". I want6 years ago Read more -
Blog postI love weaving the stories in my head. I get lost in the dialog, scenery, plots and just introducing the characters to a new world of readers. But I have often wondered how I could use my writing in a more immediate way to garner income. Enter "freelancing".
Freelancing is not a new concept, in fact the Internet has made it much easier to become a freelancer regardless of your area of expertise or level of experience. All you need is a website and a way t6 years ago Read more -
Blog postWhile I don't do "New Year Resolutions" (nothing against those who do), I am a HUGE fan of the "To-Do" list.
This approach just works better for me and it keeps my analytical side busy even on a creative project. Not to mention that there is no greater joy than marking off items as COMPLETED! .
So with that in mind, here is my list for 2016.

Blog postIt's not easy to keep working towards a dream, whether its writing, owning a business, or paying off debt. Dreams take work, planning and sometimes a good bit of research.
With this in mind, I found the article Successful Self-Publishing Advice from a Pro to be very interesting and thought I would share.

Blog postWriting is not easy. Even with a very active imagination. But even thought I tend to stall on following the "do's and don'ts" of the process I still do something writing related every single day. Even if it;s just a mental check in with my characters.
I've said it before and it still holds true for me. I wrote a lot more (as in word count) before I found out I was doing it the "wrong" way. And although I wish I could unlearn that i h6 years ago Read more -

Blog postWriting is one of the most difficult things I have ever undertaken. I mean the idea of writing is enchanting and exciting, but actually getting down to it can be challenging (or exciting with unexpected bouts of opposition). But even with the different obstacles that can get us of track in our writing, ultimately the desire to tell stories boils down to wanting to tell the stories that our imagination has effortlessly constructed.
And let's be honest, some days are bette7 years ago Read more -

* * *One* * * ~Amanda~Evening, February 22, 2001
My eyes widened taking in all of the pear-shape reflection staring back at me. The pale yellow, cotton house frock stretched around me was far from chic, top-of-the-line mommy where. It was simple, but it was comfortable and that’s all that mattered. A gentle caress of my belly seemed to calm the little passenger inside who was busy flipping and kicking while I gazed into the mirror. Even though my gift made7 years ago Read more -

The Monster under my Bed
Today I realized that I have been begging, pleading and praying for the dream, but in reality I am afraid to fall asleep…afraid to close my eyes and allow the vision of predestined peace to visit me, all because I opened my eyes to a nightmare a few times.

Blog postAs many of you know, I have really been struggling with my writing process. So recently I have come across a number of articles and forums that are focused on the same issue. One of which is the Writing Into the Dark series by Dean Wesley Smith, which is an author resource that he is developing from daily installments on his blog.

Blog postI remember coloring like it was yesterday...actually it was just yesterday since I keep a Smurfs coloring book in my writing cave. But whether I was coloring as 8 year old me or (clears throat) the slightly older version, creating a world or scene just the way I envisioned it was an amazing feeling!
With this in mind, I had to ask myself when and where I'd lost that same fervor to write the stories I dreamed up with no holds barred?

Blog postPoetry is where it all started for me. It was the first avenue of storytelling that I embraced. And even though my imagination is filled with "Para-Fantasy" characters and plots, I can't help but return to my roots and write a poem every now and then.
I can remember having journals full of poems - nothing on the level of Maya or Langston, but they were my thoughts. And I knew exactly what they meant and what situation or event they were tied to.

Blog postThe feeling you get when you finish a story is indescribable. It means you set out to do something AND did it. But in the world of writing sometimes the end in a story does not mean the end for the writer.
From editing to rewrites to correct plot holes and tie the story threads together, The end is often just the beginning which can sometimes be sad and frustrating to a writer.

Blog postIt never fails, as soon as I sit down to work on a WIP - I am immediately flooded with ideas from/for other projects. And while inspiration is great (writing really sucks without it) it can be distracting and ultimately lead to a total lack of progress across the board. My tall dark hero died.
Some say it was his gift that took him away; others say The Institution got to him. But either way, my destiny didn’t die with him.
I’m Amanda. My gift is to read the memories of the living and communicate with the dead. To The Institution, I’m a clairaudient. That makes me high on their list of gifteds who need to be normalized.
The Institution is hunting down every gifted person they can find to… fix them. Its mission ripped families apart and had claimed one of the most powerful gifteds I’d ever known, the matriarch of my family. Now there was just me; a pregnant girl, whose closest remaining family was the ragtag group of gifteds formerly taught by her Grandmother.
“Stay under The Institution’s radar,” was the first rule we all learned. And now I had a target on my back.
But the bounty on my head is much deeper than that. I’m being hunted by The Institution under the orders one of its founders, my mother.
And I’m not sure if it matters if I’m dead or alive.
The once picturesque town is being held hostage by a crime spree unlike anything its residents have ever seen.
Desperate, a group of residents try their hand at witchcraft to bring peace and justice back to their home.
What could go wrong?
Her birthday celebration at the carnival came to a screeching halt when a psychic offered to “read her life”.
Unfortunately it would be a very short read.
Sixty Seconds is an odd story about love, death, and a carnival; but not in that order.
Marked as “unchanged” and falling out of favor, his adversaries have riddled his path with distractions and ploys to overtake him. Now thrown into a quest to discover the keys to unleashing the Reckoning, Kao’s every action brings him closer to revealing the darkest secrets of the kingdom. But will he be able to put it all together in time to ignite the rise of the Unknowns?
Embracing the family practice of secrecy and the "need to know" basis, Undria sets a plan in motion designed to help her escape her powerful family and overprotective father. But will her drastic measures be enough?
