The toaster gives very even and consistent results in part thanks to the digital settings. You need to hone in on the darkness number you prefer for a given item, but once you do the result are consistent batch to batch.
The digital bars count down to give you a status indication, but not an actual time until toasting is complete. This is still a fairly useful feature when timing the toast to be done with the rest of the meal. The reheat feature works well to rewarm toast if it was done too early.
The bagel function toast the split side and warms the outside. I have learned to love the results of this setting. Sesame bagel are delicious done this way, and all bagels seem to have a great texture using the bagel setting.
However, this brings me to an issue that should be considered when choosing the T-Fal digital toaster. The toaster holds 4 slice, but it is still only a 2 slot toaster. This means that if there are differing toasting preferences then you will still have to toast in separate batches.
The toast complete beep and slide out crumb tray are also a nice features.
The one aspect of the toaster I would change is the cord wrap. The cord wrap is located on the bottom of the toaster, but there is no provision for the plug. A cord lock notch on the plug is all they would have needed to add to make the cord wrap truly useful.
I recommend this toaster, but be aware of the 2 slot disadvantage if making toast for multiple people.
This toaster has two long slots. It can easily fit 4 slices of bread and it may fit better in your kitchen than one of the huge 4-separate-slot toasters. Toasts nice and evenly so far (only had it a day so I'll update later). Seems average in toasting speed (why is everyone so obsessed with this?)
It's got a digital countdown timer which is very nice (when's my toast gonna be ready???!!!) Only a few simple controls and functions which is all you need. This could be my favorite toaster ever if it keeps doing it's basic job well.
<UPDATE> Still working after 6 months. It doesn't toast quite as evenly as I thought before but it's ok. LOVE the bagel function. To the commenter: yes it beeps when it's done -- but it's not too loud.</UPDATE>

I am currently using a $5 Chefmate from Target but I decided it was time for an upgrade. After researching extensively for a top rated toaster at an affordable price, I came to the same conclusion as determined by the editors of America's Test Kitchen- there is no 5 star toaster (The ATK recommendation is no longer being sold). You would think that an appliance so commonly found in every household would have a better product design. All I ask is for it to fit bagels and long artisan breads, toast bread somewhat evenly and quickly, and have a decent light-to-dark knob setting. Unfortunately this still does not exist in the current toaster market. A lot of designs have hit or miss reviews, if you are lucky to get a working toaster out of the box and have some patience to learn your toasters quirks, you might get an appliance that you won't regret buying.
After weighing out the 4, 5 star reviews with the 2, 3 star ones and taking it with a grain of salt, I chose this toaster as it seemed to fit my requirements. (Most of the 1 star reviews were customers who received a broken product and it seemed like a small percentage. ) I figured most of the complaints I could deal with - digital settings turning off and resetting, too loud/not loud enough beeping, etc. and I was hopeful I could get the hang of the toast settings with practice and use. When it arrived, I do admit while it has a nice sleek design (not bulky and has smooth lines) it felt flimsy and like it was made cheaply. But I figured as long as you didn't have to pick it up, it would still look nice on the counter top. Unfortunately the toaster was broken out of the box.Read more ›

We have owned this toaster for a while and it is used every day, at least once, if not more and it's a great item. Especially for bagels.Published 8 days ago by Cassandra C. Watson
Unreliable. Partially failed after only a few months. It stills toasts on the "1" setting, but the level won't change anymore. Read morePublished 11 days ago by Rachel J Halverson

I like that it can handle large pieces of bread and thick bagels, but it always toasts uneven. Also, if you set it at 3 for the first batch, set it at 2 for the next or it will... Read morePublished 1 month ago by TFB
It's a great toaster if you want uneven, unpredictable toasting. It fits in the space I need it, and it accommodates 4 slices--that's the best I can say about it.Published 2 months ago by KathyW
Owned it less than a year. Worked well for roughly 10 months then it died. Warranty is for 1 year and will now attempt to get TFal to fix or replace it.Published 3 months ago by Jeffrey A. Lane
