TERRO Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes
How It Works
Long-term control of pesky sweet-eating ants is a piece of cake with TERRO Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes. This highly effective, unique liquid baiting technique kills the ants you see, and the ants you don’t. To use, simply place the pre-filled ant bait stakes into the ground near areas where ants have been observed. Then sit back and relax. Your work is complete.
Bait, Wait, Eliminate
Effective, long-term control of ants is dependent on baiting the worker ants – the ants you see marching indoors and outdoors around your house – with the unique TERRO liquid ant bait formulation. As worker ants forage for food, they are drawn to the sweet liquid in the Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes. While the active ingredient in the bait will ultimately kill the worker ants by interfering with their digestive system, it is designed to kill slowly. This slow kill gives the foraging ants adequate time to return to their nest and deliver a deadly dose of bait to the ants hiding out in the colony.
How does the liquid ant bait work to control ant invasions?
Adult worker ants cannot digest solid food, they can only transport and digest liquids. That’s what makes this product so effective – the ants can easily digest and transport the liquid bait back to the rest of the colony. As ants search for food, they are drawn to the sweet liquid in the Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes. The active ingredient works slowly enough to allow time for the foraging ants to deliver it back to the rest of the nest. Within a few days of placing the ant stakes, there will be a significant decline in the number of ants visiting the bait.
- Place the TERRO Outdoor Liquid Ant Bait Stakes near ant trails or areas where ants are observed entering your home.
- Place the bait stakes securely in the ground by pushing with your hand until the bottom of the ant bait stake is flush with the ground. Do not push the stake into the ground with your foot or a tool.
- After the stake is in place, activate it by breaking off the bait pack tab. The ants will enter the bait stake through the hole created by removing the tab.
- Monitor the bait level on a regular basis, being careful not to disturb the ants or the stakes while doing so. Replace the stakes when the bait level is no longer visible through the bait pack window.
- For long-term ant control, keep a fresh supply of ant bait available for foraging ants to feed on.
- Wait patiently. Depending on the size of the ant infestation, complete annihilation of the colony may take up to two weeks.
How long does it take to work?
When you first place the ant bait stakes in the ground, you will see a surge in the number of ants. Don’t be concerned, this is normal. The ants will consume the bait and return to the nest to share the bait with the rest of the colony. Depending on the size of the infestation, complete control may take up to two weeks. It is important to leave the ant stake undisturbed while the ants are actively feeding on the bait. A see-thru window on the stakes enables you to monitor how much bait is in the stake. Replace the stake when the bait pack is empty.

At first I thought the spike & container looked cheap but the ants found it and then they disappeared.
Until a few weeks later ... I put out a second fresh trap and the ants could not have cared less. They even ignored the drop that I put on their path ... they check it out and walked around it. I've read that ants change their needs during the year ... and right now they aren't taking the bait.
These lasted all spring and summer and until I prepped my home for winter. I was truly amazed how great of a product it was. A+++++++++ I love this product!
By the way, I pushed these stakes way down into the area around my patio and didn't have to touch them again until I removed them before winter.
The first day or two I had them in place, the entire ant trail redirected to them and were crawling in and out like mad. After a day or two, the trail of ants just bypassed them and continued strong. It just didn't seem to have any effect on them. I did this to multiple trails with multiple baits, but the ants just fed for a day or two and then ignored them. I used the entire case over a couple of weeks but the ant numbers and trails haven't subsided. They are normal black ants so I don't think that's the issue.
We have used less than one round of what I have purchased, and the ants are ALL BUT GONE. Unbelievable!! Based on other reviews, we cut off use of all other products for a few days and then put the Terro baits indoor and outdoor. We also did not move or clean away the baits, even though it was really gross with dead ants literally all over the baits and around the baits on the floor. We put out 4 of the indoor baits, mostly in the kitchen areas, and one box each of the outdoor baits. I would suggest that combo if you do have the extensive problem we had, because the ants swarmed to the baits, and the baits got over flowing with dead ants. Still our combo knocked them out in less than 3 weeks. I am incredibly pleased because the cost of all this was less than $50 and I still have a full second round to use. We are still getting a random ant here and there, which are very small in size. My partner is convinced they are "sending out the baby ants" because there are so few left to send LOL... I don't know about that but I do know I can make toast on the counter without ruining a full container of butter!
Also, I have both cats and a dog, and other than putting them behind or under some of my low kitchen furniture, I had no issue with them being around the animals. They had no interest in them.
