“Excellent … Anyone who liked the Terminator movies will love this book.”
From Publishers Weekly
Military SF author Stirling provides fast-moving combat between well-matched, smart opponents in this excellent sequel to last year's T2: Infiltrator, in which Sarah Connor, her teenaged son, John, and their new ally, Dieter von Rossbach, defeated the female cyborg sent back in time by evil computer Skynet, but didn't know that she'd left her two cloned sisters ready to take up the job of protecting Skynet. Now John and Dieter are on the run in South America, Sarah is recovering from serious wounds and the cute young Terminators are learning to exploit their superhuman abilities. Complications multiply deliciously as the author cuts rapidly from one vivid scene to another. The movie-like technique lets readers watch intelligent people following incomplete information into terrible mistakes. Accepting human limitations but stretching his own potential, John becomes more the tough, confident leader of the Terminator movies. Around John, Stirling efficiently gathers a large cast which changes frequently, since most characters don't survive long in the presence of a Terminator. Sly humor spices the nonstop action until it climaxes at a secret Antarctic scientific-military base, where John and Dieter confront one Terminator. Meanwhile, the other cyborg killer is on the trail of still-recuperating Sarah at Dieter's Paraguay ranch. Anyone who liked the Terminator movies will love this book. In fact, it's exciting enough to win new fans for the franchise.

About the Author
A well-regarded author of alternate history science-fiction novels, S.M. His most recent novels are T2: Infiltrator, The Peshawar Lancers, and the Island in the Sea of Time trilogy.

The highly competent Stirling is now extrapolating moviemaker James Cameron's Terminator concepts into a full-blown alternate future. In the second installment of the project, Sarah Connor is considered mad, bad, and dangerous to know by those who don't know the menace of Skynet, the computer-mind that rules the future and dispatches Terminators and Infiltrators to protect itself from Sarah's son, John Connor, who is growing older and more capable as well as falling in love. The Connors and Dieter von Rossbach, who, curiously enough, resembles a certain movie star from Austria, are quite capable of holding the fort until the advent of two Infiltrators, both female in appearance. The little band of resistance fighters now has to recruit new allies and then carry the fight to the enemy. They do, though at high cost, on the way offering a feast of technical ingenuity, wry wit, offbeat characterization, and furious, convincing action. A felicitous wedding of a visually oriented writer to soundly conceived sf-movie concepts. Roland Green

Being a huge fan of S.M. Stirling, and the first two terminator movies...I bought these, while still being a bit skeptical about how good a trilogy of books based on the movies could be. Partly due to my skepticism, and my constant backlog of things to read, these actually languished on my bookshelf for a few years. Putting my trust in S.M. Stirling, I just recently tore thought the whole trilogy, and was very pleased! They are not perfect...some dialog is pretty clunky, and a few scenarios are a bit clumsy...but the overall story is a great continuation of where events left off after the second movie, leading up to the events that trigger the first movie (spoiler alert: time travel). In the end, I felt a degree of anger that the movies from T3 on, didn't follow the far superior storyline in these books...these books are far more satisfying, and have a much better conclusion.

A creditable action packed sequel to T2: Infiltrator, but typical of the middle book in 3 book series.

A creditable action packed sequel to T2: Infiltrator, but typical of the middle book in a 3 book series.
As with T2: Infiltrator, Rising Storm begins immediately after the end of the previous book, with Sara recovering from her wounds, and John and Dieter escaping to Dieter's plantation in Paraguay.
The team all believe that with the destruction of the infiltrator at the end od the previous book, they are safe; however, they fail to know that the infiltrator had left 2 clones of herself to complete her mission if she failed. These clones take up the mission determined not to repeat the mistakes of the first infiltrator.
As the worldwide conflict to either: kill the Connors; prevent Skynet from coming on line; or to insure Skynet does come on line, the action on both sides intensifies, with the Connors, aided by Dieter, recruiting adherents to their cause and stockpiling weapons for the inevitable war, while the 2 cloned infiltrators work to kill the Connors and aid the development of Skynet.
The action moves to such locations as Argentina, Boston and Antarctica, and John finds his first love with a MIT student.
While an action packed story, it suffers from being the middle book in a 3 book series; it doesn't have the novel feel of the 1st book, but the reader knows the story will not be concluded.

Pretty good read. Seemed a little slow at first. It got better toward the end. Still has at least one in answered question. I can't reveal it without giving too much away.

Build up was slow, but the action was astounding. The should make a movie using this book as a framework. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

The written word is so much more realistic than cinema. Mr. Sterling did it again! It was very hard to ever put the book down because I wanted to keep the storyline moving.

Much as I said about T2: Infiltrator, T2: Rising Storm is a well-written sequel #2 to the second Terminator movie--Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In fact, Infiltrator and Rising Storm, written by veteran SciFi writer, S.M. Stirling, are a much better sequels to Terminator 2 than is the third movie in the series.
I had hoped, in vain as it turns out, that the next movie (Terminator 3) would follow Stirling's series. Stirling is a powerful fiction writer and his understanding of combative behavior is refreshing. (See some of his other works such as Drakon and Island In The Sea Of Time.)
This one is a good read.

This book and it's sisters (Infiltrator and a Future war) are the way a true Terminator fan would have wanted the movie, Terminator 3 to have been made. In collaboration, the three books talk about John and Sarah going into hidding before the war, how again they attempt to thwart Skynet, how they build up the resistance before the war and finally, how the war starts. There is also a glimpse of Kyle Reese and how he gew up in the aftermath of the war to eventually fall in love with Sarah and travel time for her.
An excellent read. A must have!!!

Loved this, read AN Stirlings first Terminator book and loved it, delighted that this was just as good. Strong story, great characters, and unlike some of the current Terminator books this has complexity and depth.

I enjoyed the book because I am a big fan of the Terminator film series but I cannot say it was riveting, if anything it was a bit scrappy and dull and slow in parts.
