The movement in this watch is the Swiss-made 26 Jewel Sellita SW200-2 (almost identical to ETA 2824-2 which is the older, but a proven ETA workhorse) Tag Heuer re-brands it as "Calibre 5". So far it's been only losing about 3 seconds a day which is good for this movement considering that the Top grade ETA movement has an accuracy of +-4 seconds per day with a maximum of +-10.
The Sapphire anti-reflective coated crystal and caseback are very nice. Especially the blue/purple reflection seen sometimes from the date magnifier. I knocked my arm into a door handle at high speed and I was sure the crystal was broken but not even a scratch.
I like how uncomplicated this watch is which is why I didn't get a chronograph, which I find unnecessary and adding too many failure modes to the movement.
The rubber strap is nice and easily adjustable. I much prefer it to the stainless steel bracelet which is hard to adjust just right and can be uncomfortable to wear.
The glowing minute and hour hands are nice but I don't like the seconds hand which is too small and hard to see/find. Once I do find it though, I like watching it glide across the face of the watch (rather than skip from second to second like quartz movements)
The workmanship and attention to detail that has gone into this watch is amazing.
The one issue I have with the watch is the smell.Read more ›
I had them replace the rubber band with a stainless steel band making the watch a WAJ2150.BA0870. The store told me the cost of the two bands are the same so they did not mind swapping the bands.
The bezel size is 43mm and my wrist size is average. The watch looks good on my size of wrist. We took three links out and extended the band to its largest slot in the clasp.
How did the one prior post know the movement is a Sellita SW200-2 (almost identical to ETA 2824-2?
The people at the store and the US Tag HQ told me the movement is an ETA 2824-2. I read online you have to be the manufacture to tell the difference since they are so close.
I did not give the watch a 5 star because not being an expert on watches, I wasn't aware the movement (Stellita or ETA) was an inexpensive very very mass produced and only runs about $80.00 wholesale. The same movement is used in watches that run $350.00 to $5,000.00.
I didn't know Tag would put an $80.00 movement in a $5,000.00 watch.
I do really like the Saphire see through case back... Very nice
Time accuracy (new) is about + 4 seconds/day.
There is a second hand, if you can find it. It is too tiny.
The 18k gold bezel looks good and not cheap.Read more ›
