Sounds good on paper, right? But do you ever look at wildly successful, confident, ceiling-shattering women and think...
What does she have that I don't?
If you've ever felt fake, burnt-out, less-than, or (God forbid) like a stranger in your own skin, it's time to let you in on a dirty little secret:
No one wakes up one sunny morning and is magically an effective leader.
Not in business. Not in life. Not ever.
As an entrepreneur, speaker, author, business coach, and founder of the Leading Lady program, AliceAnne Loftus has spent her life learning that true leadership isn't just another tick on a to-do list. In this hilarious, heart-wrenching memoir, AliceAnne draws on the roots of her own journey to unpack the gritty leadership lessons behind the worldwide Leading Lady phenomenon.
Unapologetically funny, often sad, and always authentic, TAKE THE LEAD is an open invitation to discover that leadership is a living, breathing process rather than an outcome—and that the power to change your life, your community, and your world lies at the core of your authentic self.

"Hilarious, painfully honest, and beautifully written, Take the Lead reads like a comfortable and uplifting conversation with a wise friend who is imparting poignant life lessons disguised as casual anecdotes.
"AliceAnne's memoir is a deep and relevant meditation on navigating the terrain between the stories we've been told about who we are and the life we choose to live. Loftus has a true flair for scene setting and an arsenal of unexpected, stirring experiences that will stay with you forever. It's a must-read for female leaders, business owners, emerging adults, underdogs, disrupters, world-changers, and anyone else waiting for an invitation to break free from handcuffing beliefs and step into power."

"This book is raw, honest, instructive, and endlessly engaging.
"Professional leadership coach AliceAnne Loftus's willingness to share her own (at times painful) journey of self-discovery and the invaluable life and leadership lessons she's learned along the way is a gift to absolutely anyone who wants to grow, lead, and confidently step into their own authenticity and purpose.
"This book artfully weaves powerful stories, humor, vulnerability, actionable leadership tools, and powerful lessons from a seasoned and successful entrepreneur. It's a can't-miss read!"

About the author

AliceAnne Loftus, born in the Philippines and having moved over a dozen times as a child with her military family, finally calls Annapolis, Maryland her “home” where she lives with her husband and 2 children. She has been a business owner for nearly 2 decades and is also a business and leadership coach for high-achieving women. While her educational background is rooted in early childhood education, as she grew through her own business and leadership experiences, she realized that through the connection and community of other women, she found inspiration to live the motto “Empowered women, empower women.” Like many women, juggling various responsibilities, AliceAnne balances her roles as a wife, mother, friend, business woman and community leader dedicated to living, loving and leading as her best authentic self.
AliceAnne founded, Bright Beginning Children's Learning Center (a private child care and early learning program in Maryland) in 2004 and Leading Lady Coaching (a coaching program for women in business and leadership all over the world) in 2016. AliceAnne also leads an online community of nearly 6500 women, hosts the Leading Lady podcast and offers workshops and events that help support and empower women in business.

But that simply didn't happen with this book.
The storytelling is honest and challenges you to think about the assumptions you make throughout your life about others and yourself. The lessons articulate with clarity abstract feelings I've struggled to label or define for most of my adult life. The ideas are presented in such a way where there's accountability without a hammer - she's honest and direct without making an assumption of what you need to hear most or what actually applies to your life.
Overall, it's honest and beautiful. It's gracious and, at times, heart-wrenching because you can feel her working through deep themes within her own life as she puts words to them in this book. It sticks with you. Although the book accomplishes quite well its goal of challenging you to rethink how you show up in your life, it also again is a clear reminder to be very careful how much you judge others or make assumptions about other people – either based on superficial "facts" or because you're projecting your own baggage onto others.
No matter where you've been and what you're doing through, you need TAKE THE LEAD right where you are.
