Kenni is preparing to spend Christmas in Chicago with Finn's family when a young woman goes missing and turns up dead under suspicious circumstances. There are many plausible suspects, but Kenni's beloved Poppa pops in to help again. In ghost form, of course. At the same time, she's dealing with Mama's serious guilt trip about Kenni's trip to Chicago and missing Christmas in Cottonwood for the first time.
The story is excellent; there are a lot of suspects and I did not figure out the perpetrator before Kenni. I also enjoyed Kenni testing the waters re: telling Finn about Poppa. If they are in in for the long haul, she really needs to tell him soon.
This is a wonderful, feel good addition to this series. It will put you in the Christmas spirit for sure!
It's an easy and quick read. Clean and safe for teens and up. No violence. There is that bit of supernatural, in the form of a ghost (Kenni's deceased grandfather, and former sheriff,) who comes along to help her solve the murders. It's not a romance, but there are some romantic gestures played out, which adds a bit of sweetness to the story. It it part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone, though in this book, you don't get as much background of the characters, so you may not fully understand or appreciate them, as much as if you've been reading the series from the beginning. (But you will not have any troubles following the story/plot.)
Kenni finds herself wrapped up in another murder mystery and learns that people are not always what they seem. That friendly neighbor may not be so friendly behind closed doors. She learns secrets about Cottonwood that she hoped to never have learn, but can she solve the mystery without her emotions getting in the way? She has extra help this time from Finn, Poppa (the one true known reason it is murder before it is officially announced) and a fill-in named Scott. They go up against the odds, and mother nature, to find the true killer. It will leave you astounded and maybe make you question what’s going on behind your neighbors doors. Be sure to pick this story up and join the citizens of Cottonwood as they prepare for Christmas and stay warm with this Southern cozy mystery!
I really like this series and have read each book in it...and I always eagerly await the next release when I am done with the current one! I like the small town atmosphere, the paranormal aspect with Kenni's ghost "Poppa" as well as the sweet little romance with Finn. The mystery is not easily solved and this one in particular dealt with a real-life subject that no one wants to admit to. A well-written series and one also full of the flavor of Southern life - both good and bad!
NOTE: I did receive an ARC of this book, but my review was totally voluntary and a pleasure to write as I highly recommend this series!
I love me some Kenni and Finn!! Tonya Kappes has written another great book in this awesome series. The development of the romance between Kenni and Finn is perfect. Between the romance, great mystery and the touch of paranormal it makes for a great read.
I received a copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
