Editorial Reviews

Review

I love Ford. He was perfectly flawed in this book. ~ Amy (Foxy) Goodreads Best Reviewer

TAUT is a delightful stand alone HEA novel. There was so much that made me happy about this book I'm surprised my digital highlighter didn't run out of digital ink. ~ Jana Aston Goodreads Reviewer

For as much as I loved J.A. Huss' Rook and Ronin series, Taut was that much BETTER.
~ Krista's Dust Jacket

Imagine growing up with real physical pain anytime someone touches you. As a small child, not able to express his pain in words, his parents constantly touching him and trying to care for him. Imagine what that would turn you into.

Add to that fear of physical contact a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome and throw in a little savant tendencies and you come out with Ford Aston. Genius. Freak. Nerd. Weirdo. Cold. Callus. All words that could be used to describe him.

But here are a few more.

Loyal. Misunderstood. Giving. Sexy. Loveable. Fierce. Protective.

Ford never wanted intimacy with anyone until he got to know Rook. The only woman he allowed himself to love, the only woman he dreamed of kissing, the only woman he imagined a life with. Problem is, Rook belongs to another man. A man Ford would never betray. Unable to stand the close proximity, he flees Denver in attempt at distance, to try to forget what he never thought he wanted.

Fleeing in the middle of a blizzard was a chance he had to take, stranding him where he doesn't want to be and putting him in Ashleigh's path.

Ashleigh and her infant daughter, Kate, are on the run. From what Ford doesn't know, but even his black heart can't let the two freeze to death on the side of the road. What Ford imagines to be a little money out of his pocket to help a stranger turns into a closeness, an intimacy beyond anything he's ever felt and he's not about to let another man take this chance away from him.

Ford was a favorite of mine when he first appeared on the pages of the Rook & Ronin series. My love for him only grew with the release of SLACK and now with TAUT... I'll admit, it's more than love. It's an obsession. Ford is everything I love in a book guy.

I have so much to say about this book, but... whenever I want a review to mean something I freeze up and blurt "I love bubblegum" and hit enter. TAUT deserves better so I'm spitting out my gum, pulling on my big girl "Ford's Pet" panties and getting to work.

TAUT is a stand alone novel, yet you may have met Ford Aston before, because he's a secondary character in the Tragic series. If you haven't read Tragic, Manic & Panic, you could start here. (Or the Ford Aston novella SLACK.) I'm glad I started with Tragic because I fell in hardcore love with Ford in book 3, and the anticipation of reading HIS book was delicious. But, if you're behind on your reading & want to start with TAUT go ahead. When you fall in love with Ford you'll have the added bonus of being able to go back & read what he was up to before he met "the girl."

So what's the attraction to Ford? Ford is a weird guy. A hot, genius, computer hacking, sexy, weird guy. He is the perfect level of weirdness that draws me in like a hooker to a pimp.

Ford's got issues. Some good ones, but I'll let him tell you what they are. He doesn't do girlfriends, he does "pets." Then he meets "the girl", and she is no pet.

Ashleigh... she's perfect for Ford. She's got some issues going on too. I'll let her explain those to you as well, but I am #TeamAshleigh all the way. There is no throwing of kindles with this heroine. She's everything I wanted for Ford. She's feisty & smart and she's got Ford's number. If I can't have Ford myself, I'll sleep well knowing Ashleigh has him.

TAUT is a delightful stand alone HEA novel. There was so much that made me happy about this book I'm surprised my digital highlighter didn't run out of digital ink.
