Patricia Gitt does a good job of rounding out the characters, inside and outside of the formal business environment. Katherine, the protagonist, both loves and hates her job. We meet her best friend and see the two discussing men and dating. We learn about Katherine’s boss and her boss’s boss and how they treat Katherine.
The characters and their interactions are the highlight of this light mystery. In a couple of passages we go into the head of the antagonist and learn a little about his background and motivation. Katherine’s part in the investigation of the crime is minimal, but the rewards for her are gigantic.
You’ll enjoy this peek into the corporate world and the life changing experience of a likable heroine.

Some expected topics appear - fraud, deceit, blackmail - but with enough twists and tension to keep the reader interested, and it all goes along at a fair pace. There's intrigue and a shock or two, but no gratuitous violence or gore, making this light enough for a bedtime read.
Being a British reader, I was fascinated by the insights into corporate America and individual lifestyles.
The themes of trust and power were enjoyably explored through the behaviour and decisions of contrasting female characters, notably the young heroine, Katherine, and her older and colder boss.
Plenty of male characters too, both benevolent and nasty, and plenty of potential love interest, perhaps with a sequel in mind?
