I was originally going to give this TV a five-star review--the picture and sound quality are decent, roku integration is flawless, the remote is quick and responsive (lacking the command lag present in many smart TV's) and the bezel and stand are attractive.

Unfortunately, that was before I turned off the 'Eco' setting, which turns on the LED illumination. Since then, I've noticed severe amounts of light leakage coming from the corners and edges during dark scenes (as pictured). What bothers me is that this is a problem frequently seen in side-lit models, but this TV is advertised as back-lit. A full-array LED backlight was a major selling point for me and definitely a deciding factor in choosing the television, so this is a serious disappointment.

5 stars to amazon asthis isn't a knock on the TV or Amazon - thank goodness I bought this from them as they know how to give customer service. This is about TCL customer service. When I set up the TV there was a slightly darker area in the corner of the picture. I called TCL customer service twice and the automated attendant said it would be 6 min hold. Well both times after 45 min I hung up. Tried email support process and always got error when submitted no matter the browser. I tried the chat support and got a rep both times but never a response. I assume they pop up on the reps screen and they just ignore it. Finally got through to someone yesterday. Emailed pics of the issue and my receipt from amazon. I had gotten a good deal on it which apparently "voids" the warranty. TCL response was - based on price, amazon sold u a used tv and therefore we are not supporting the warranty. Then said to take it to a repair shop if you want it fixed. Amazon clearly had it listed as new and it arrived exactly the way a new TV would. So tv good, I really like the interface but just hope u don't have to ever contact warranty support. Amazon is taking care of the replacement

The tv went into standby mode after 30 minutes of taking it out of the box. I could not get it to turn back on again. I called customer service. That was the worst customer service I have ever talked to! I wouldn't recommend this brand to anyone.

I have never had a more user friendly setup experience than from Roku - so I had high expectations for the Roku TV. Happy to say I was not disappointed. It took less than a half hour from opening the box to watching shows. And, most of that time was with detecting my router - I reset it a couple of times and moved it around and problem resolved. The setup guide walks you through each device you want to set up, and the prompts are clear and easy to follow.
I have to say that initially I was disappointed in the picture quality - and wasn't sure what to expect since I was not familiar with the TCL brand. After exploring the settings, I saw that the tv shipped with the Eco-friendly setting - which is grainy and flat. I changed the picture quality setting to normal and now the quality is beautiful.
The remote control is simple and well designed - as long as you use it for viewing movies and streaming video sources. It is too limited to work as a universal remote if you watch a lot of cable content or DVR. So I programmed my cable remote to connect with the Roku TV. I had some challenge finding the right code though - seems the TCL TV is not on the list of codes provided online at TWC cable website. However, there is an easy process to program the remote to look for a code that works - you just hold the setup pointed at the tv until it finds one it likes. Then your cable remote will work fine with just about all the Roku TV menus. (Go to "customize your remote" on the TWC site to find instructions for your model).

I am looking forward to more a la carte options becoming available so I can ditch my cable box altogether, but until then, the Roku TV is a close as it gets to simple one- stop shop. And the ability to search all the media sources in one place is really helpful in finding which service has what I am looking for.

I have to say, as a first time Roku user, I am blown away. This TV has a wonderful picture, Nice and bright display, and the interface is well thought out and a breeze to use. I have been using an LG BD-670 bluray player for playing from my home server, Playon use, and netflix role, along with occasional disc playing duties and had grown tired of how sluggish the interface, especially in netflix, had become. Movies and TV shows play almost instantly now. I have a very pared down interface and so it is easy for my wife to use. The TV keeps a great connection to my wireless router, which my bluray player could not do. I am tempted to buy another of these for my mother, and maybe the mother-in-law. My only gripes are that the DLNA interface only attempts to play .mp4 files, avi files are ignored, and I wish this had the headphone feature of the Roku 3. The DLNA issue can probably be taken care of by using a different DLNA server software, like Plex or Serviio, so that's not a horrible problem.

Quick update:

I did update my DLNA server software from the built-in Windows Media Player to that of Plex and it definitely works better. I don't have to use the plex channel for it but you can (costs $4.99 after a 30 day trial). It didn't solve every problem, but seems to work well so far and I really like that Plex doesn't have you go thru a bunch of extra steps to get to your files. I am still loving this TV and am more impressed with it each day I use it. I am super happy with the picture quality, especially with videos in HD. I am blown away by the speed of this. Before, if I was watching something off my server and wanted to go to Netflix or vice versa, 1/4 of the time my bluray player would crash. Now it's a matter of 2-3 seconds and I have yet to have a crash or hiccup with this new TV. I would be truly happy to replace all of our TVs and my relatives TVs with one of these.
