Teac's W-600R offers convenience and affordability in a format no longer cutting-edge but still widely used in cars as well as portable and home stereos. The unit's dual-well convenience includes auto-reverse playback in deck 2, normal and high-speed tape-to-tape copying, continuous playback between decks, and auto tape selector (normal, chrome, metal).
Electronic tape counters mark mileage in both wells, while the program level meters sport two colors to highlight peak signals. Dolby B noise reduction cuts tape hiss during playback of Dolby-encoded cassettes, one-touch recording minimizes copying hassles, and the unit is compatible with Teac "UR" (Unified Remote) control devices. The W-600R weighs 8.5 pounds.

At first blush, this unit looks promising (keeping in mind that one shouldn't expect miracles given the selling price, etc.). One of the cassette mechanisms on this particular TEAC W-600R developed a loud electronic hum (which had also translated to the Recording as well as the Playback mode) after only 3 weeks of extremely light use - a virtual out-of-box failure. I returned the item for a replacement (ever the Optimist or simply too stupid to know better) and am awaiting the new unit. I must add that, unfortunately, my experience with TEAC products has always been disappointing at best (at present, I have 3 TEAC products and all suffer from a malfunction of some sort on at least one of the features). I actually purchased this W-600R to "replace" (via AUX) the suddenly non-functioning cassete decks on my TEAC DC-D2831 Compact Hi-Fi System (rather than trash the whole System). Those just quit out-of-the-blue. These failures seem to happen too regularly to attribute to a series of coincidences. Just saying "beware", I suppose. Sometimes a bargain isn't always a bargain.
This Teac is a suprisingly good deck for the price. It only has Dolby B noise reduction, but that is fine considering that there were (or almost were) no commercial tapes made in Dolby C or DBX anyways. Wow and flutter are not a problem. My only complaint is that you cannot rewind one deck while doing something totally independent on the other because of the single moter drive. I am also not wild about the door design (you push directly on the door to open or close it) but those are minor quips compared to how good it sounds for this price. This would make a great deck if you are transfering you old cassettes to digital.
I bought this unit for my elderly father. He has over 300 cassettes and needed something to replace a broken deck. Unfortunately there are not many to choose from. After reading the reviews on here I decided this machine seemed to be the best choice. My dad got it today and said it works great and sounds very nice. He has no complaints (yet). The best thing was that I ordered it on Monday night and he received it Wednesday mid-day. (I'm still waiting for 2 HDMI cables that I ordered over a week ago on Amazon, go figure.) So very quick shipping for about $10.00.
I have hundreds of cassettes from years gone bye. I bought this to make digital copies. This deck not only plays cassettes well, but offers features that make cassettes in themselves attractive. For instance, playing side one of one cassette then, automatically, a second cassette with automatic reverse. Cassettes do not hold up well against time but this deck will play cassettes that sound awful on other decks and make them sound -- almost -- like CDs. If you must play a cassette, this will work well for you.
The tape deck arrived at my door in what appeared to be an original new factory box, but the door for one of the two tape bays was ajar and would not function. I could have taken the hour or two to repackage it and return for an exchange, but decided my time would be better spent tearing the unit down and fixing the problem. After some effort I fixed the door and the unit works fine. Since the unit appeared that it may have been out of the box before, I'm not sure if this was a shipping issue or I was sent a broken deck. Good buy for the money and this TEAC works fine, but be aware of buying so called "new" products over the internet. I usually like to buy electronics at a store were the can be easily exchanged, but low end tape desks are not variable at retailers in my area. Maybe I just had bad luck with my shipment, or this online provider?
I got this for my wife. She wanted a quality dual well cassette player/recorder. She isn't into the high tech stuff (me the more buttons the better). She learned to use this one in a few minutes and loved it so much she had me order a second one (from Amazon again) for when she wears out this one which she most certainly will. Thanks for a great product and price.
This product lives up to its description. Exactly what I wanted but didn't think I could find anymore. I have a collection of Tapes that I want to convert to CDs but needed a quality playback tape deck that didn't cost too much. This is it. The functionality of the soft touch buttons is great. Great sound quality for a tape player.
I bought this to transfer old cassettes to disc. It has been a wonder to work with. I have found nothing that doesn't work beyond expectations. With the auto-reverse I just start it up and copy the whole tape to pc in no time at all. Playback on the cassette deck is great.
