Basically, in May I was using the same system settings that worked in Winter (hybrid mode), but this time hardly any animal footage captured. Changed to picture-only mode - raccoon leaving the scene picture and not much else. There were actually more pictures with nothing in them. I have been working with the camera settings since May (now mid-July) - nothing works. It's almost like since the temperature outside at night is 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and the animals are warm-blooded, maybe the IR sensors can't make the distinction that something is there. I'm much bigger than the armadillo, raccoons, bunnies, and bobcat that the camera captured in the Winter, so maybe that is why the camera sees me.
As for the Winter videos, they had such a hot spot in the center (about 15 feet away) that you could not see the animal in that area. The pictures that accompanied the Winter videos were not this way. Additionally as noted in many reviews, the broken-English manual is not much help. Seems like the company could at least spend a few bucks to hire an English-speaking tech writer for the English-speaking audience. Not much of a manual so would be cheap to do.
This is actually the second Tech Bean camera we got. The first came with a broken USB port, but that was returned and replaced by this one without incident. Anyway, it was fun in the Winter while it lasted even though the videos were too hot to keep. And although I believe this may still be under warranty, I'm tired of wasting time on it, so off to the dumpster it goes. I'll be trying another.
Also, for my purpose, I wanted to use the picture and video feature that they have - except that I an only get 1 picture and the video is almost always worthless. That is, I'll get a pic in good focus but the subject is more than halfway through the frame, and the video doesn't have any of the subject. The microphone seems rather of a novelty as well. Conversations that happen within 5 feet of the camera are often not picked up, and if they are, they are completely unintelligible. You can hear some slight vocal sounds, but no chance of knowing what was being said.
I emailed the manufacturer support email about my issues, but never received a response. I was trying to give them a chance to correct the issues, but it seems that is not going to happen.
All that being said, the pictures it does take look good. I do not have a way to test the trigger speed, but I would be surprised if it is better than 1.2s as humans walking often make it fully across the frame without being caught.
