Bulky, but effective

I am not much of a morning person. Never have been, and probably never will be. I sleep through alarms religiously, and I'm constantly hitting the snooze button more than I should. That is why I purchased this product -I wanted something that would rattle me awake. This little guy does the job.

It's bulky and hard to figure out at first (KEEP THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!), but highly effective. Many other reviews have mentioned that it's hard to wear on their wrist seeing as it's bulky and you can't lay on your arm at all. I agree with them - I sleep on my stomach and side and the Shake'N'wake is just too big to be comfortable like that. But if you continue reading another reviewer mentioned putting it on their ankle instead - this works like a charm. Plus, I have a habit of taking off what ever is annoying me in my sleep, and it's much more difficult to do this when it's so far from my hands.

I gave this product 5 stars because it does actually wake me up more than normal alarms - without waking my entire neighborhood up with those insanely loud alarm clocks. Although I do pair it up with a regular normal desk alarm clock (just to be safe) and the combination works perfectly.

How I Almost Got Fired: Because This is Junk

I hate this product. Here's why: an alarm only does me good when it goes off. Guess what, it didn't. It works 90% of the time, sure, but I personally need an alarm that will wake me up whenever I need it too. Instead, this terrible device caused me to be late today for work. I'm in a huge amount of trouble, and I'm very upset. So upset, in fact, I decided to write this review in the hopes that I can warn anyone reading this of the lesson I should have learned a long time ago: don't trust your job to an alarm that costs less than twenty bucks.

That's the general statement. Honestly, you should immediately stop reading and look elsewhere, but here's my full thoughts on the product.

When the "Shake-N-Wake" arrived I was very happy with the comfortable band, but I was surprised that the alarm was not attached to it, but rather the lip of the alarm slides into an elastic loop. It was sturdy, but I realized there was a risk the alarm could slip out in the night. The alarm is very bulky, but not uncomfortable. The problem with bulky is that it can bump on anything if you move while you sleep (move at all). The set-up is very confusing, until you realize half the features don't work.

What do I mean by that? Well, there's a blinking list of the days of the week on the top, but it DOES NOT set alarms by the day. The instructions even mention to ignore the feature as it doesn't do anything. It says that. I wish I still had the tiny instructions because I laughed for nearly an hour on how it told me too ignore a malfunctioning feature.

Oddly enough it never slipped out! Instead, the entire lip piece simply bent off. I decided to screw the alarm directly into the band, but the plastic was so cheap the screws simply broke off with the plastic. I then placed it under my pillow and the vibration woke me up alright.

The vibrating mode was the reason I got the Shake-N-Wake (imagine that,) and it worked when it went off. 10% of th time it WOULDN'T go off. Today, I returned to discover that the small switch on the side that turns off the vibration and turns on the soft beep (like a watch alarm) had gone off. Now, the alarm is so quiet I normally don't hear it, but remember, I had the device under my pillow because it had destructed itself to the point of not functioning. All in all, it lasted barely 3 months and failed me about 5 times, today being the worst of it.

As soon as I finish I will be looking for a better product to order, and when that arrives, I will smash this stupid device into oblivion. I apologize for my informal speech, but this piece of junk is going to burn in the fiery pits of Mordor by the time I'm though.

Please run away from this page and block this item to save your job (unless you want to buy it for the ridiculous instructions or if you happen to need a cheap plastic you can peel away for your art projects.

Almost silent alarm

This alarm is a great choice for people like me who are looking for an alarm without loud sounds. I did not want my spouse to wake up when I get up early. This is exactly what it does, you can choose the sound or vibrating only mode for teh alarm. I use the vibrating mode, which still makes a minor buzzing sound, which could wake up partners sleeping in the same bed if tehy have a light sleep.

The best way for me is to wear it around my wrist instead of a watch: I feel comfortable, it is adjustable and relatively soft, and it will wake you up. From the other reviews I understand that having this under the pillow or somewhere else is not the intended use, and likely will not wake you up.

Other reviewers seem to have serious issues with the setup of the device with 4 buttons. It allows many functions, which can be set using different 1 or 2 button pressing at a time.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS DEVICE, AND KEEP THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LATER!
The buttons are not obvious, and you will just have to learn them once, or be able to look them up. Don't throw away the instructions. Our baby played with it once, and since then teh hourly alarm was on - very annoying, but it can be turned off by pressing Reset and Mode at the same time (when no days are displayed when pressed, teh hourly alarm is off). Thanks to teh reviewer who pointed this out.

Most reviewers with low ratings seem to have not read the instructions, as most of the flaws they mentioned can be overcome with the correct use.

If you are willing to read the instructions, this product is the best low noise vibrating wake-up wrist band I could find for a great price. I recommend it.

I wrote to the U.S based representative for this person because when you set the alarm on this, it always leaves out 2 days in a row. I guess the manufacturers expect that none of us work more then 5 days a week, or have events on the weekend. All I got back from the U.S rep was a PDF copy of the instructions, which I already have, and do not address this issue.

Another email to him got no response.

So I have fiddled around with the settings each time I need a wakeup on a day that isn't Monday to Friday, and fool it into thinking that tomorrow is a weekday. It is a hassle. I'm actually pretty annoyed with it, but because I'm not sure that I'm being fair (others may not get as annoyed with this little additional action as I), I've given it 3 stars instead of the one or two I feel it deserves while I'm going through the various actions required to wake me on a Saturday.
And it's not easy to figure out! Digital watches were easier! Every time I want to change something on time or alarm or whatever, I have to dig out the instructions AGAIN. Good thing I have a PDF on my computer in case I ever lose these, or they just get worn through with repeat use.

Bad Design, Has Flaws.

Kinda disappointed in this thing. First of all, it vibrates so violently that it makes a lot of noise and wakes up my wife every time - I've been using it 5 days and she's been worken up 5 times. Kinda defats the point of a 'silent alarm' wouldn't you say? Second - the clip that attaches it to the wrist band is terrible. It's fallen off 3 times in 5 nights, leaving me to fish around the bed in the middle of the night to find it. One time I didn't notice it fell off (because I was sleeping duh), and it went off in the morning, leaving me to fish around like a mad man while my wife got bugged at me. Thanks shake n wake. Third problem: Not sure if I'm just an active sleeper or what, but somehow the battery cover came off, causing the battery to fall out - no alarm in the morning. Causing me to fish around to find a loose battery and loose battery cover in my bed the next day.

I used a timex watch with a vibrating alarm before this, but it sometimes didn't wake me up because it's very faint. This thing is like a earthquake, so no problems waking up. But it also wakes up the rest of my household. Can't believe people actually give this thing a good review! And I'm not normally a negative person!

Worst. Alarm. Ever.

This alarm is the worst! I tried using for about two weeks and finally just threw it in the garbage.

1. It's VERY non-intuitive to use: the buttons for adjusting the time or alarm are not labelled the way they should be, and you have to push a combination of things to get to the setting you want to change. I had to keep the instructions and refer to them repeatedly...when was the last time you needed to use the instructions to set a clock?
2. It randomly turns off in the night: there's a switch to go from sound to buzz, and it sometimes gets caught in the middle (probably from rubbing against the sheets while I sleep) and then it makes no alarm whatsoever.
3. The vibrate alarm is WAY too loud and intense: I got this so it wouldn't wake my baby (she sleeps in our room) when I get up for work, but the buzzing of the vibration alarm woke her up a couple times. Now I just use a free app on my iPhone, it works much, much better.
4. This thing is HUGE! Imagine a pager from the 1980's - now sleep with that velcroed to your ankle...forget about putting something this big on your wrist.
5. Speaking of Velcro...the Velcro on the strap sometimes gets caught on my bedding. This may not be an issue for everyone.

This is the only review I have ever written from the hundreds of products I have bought on Amazon...it really is this bad.

Actually very happy with it. I have a problem with waking up (just don't hear alarms) and this thing is great.
If you're looking for a *loud* alarm, this is NOT it.
But the vibrating feature works fantastically, which is exactly what I bought it for. I put it on my ankle at night and it works very well.
I don't know how well it would be in terms of not waking up a partner, but on my own Im very happy.

Pros:
- light up screen
- vibrates well (on ankle, it vibrates the bone so it wakes me up, but doesn't actually make a ton of sound)

Cons:
- sound is quiet (if thats what you're looking for)
- the clip isn't super sturdy (can sometimes slide off of the velcro band)

Meh:
- stopwatch feature is pretty useless (would rather have a second alarm)
